I started playing on the day this came out. My youtube home page had dozens of videos about this game so I got it. Best decision ever. This game is very relaxing and very addicting. I played 18 hours in 3 days.
This game is so close to being good. But it's not quite there. After the first two or three hours of gameplay, this is just so incredibly boring. There's nothing to do once you have set up housing, food, dams, and water. You can go along and increase the well-being of your colony enough to unlock the Iron Teeth faction, but honestly they don't actually play that differently from the default Folktails faction. The pace of gameplay is also INCREDIBLY slow, with little to no challenge on normal difficulty. Meanwhile the hard difficulty is borderline impossible to survive. Regardless, nothing ever happens except periodic droughts that make stockpiling water necessary, but that's a trivial thing to do. This could be a very good game eventually but as it is right now it's just boring and not engaging.
I am almost 60 and have become somewhat jaded when it comes to video games. Timberborn had a lot of good reviews and looked like fun so I took a chance. I am having a great time playing this game and really enjoy the hydrological aspects. I can see me playing this for a long time.
There are no objectives or missions or scenario win. You just play until you lose or get bored. The technology tree is more about perpetually grinding than actually achieving anything.
Bought this game after having it on my wishlist for years, always felt the price was a bit high. The game itself has nice graphics and good mechanics, but it's very simplistic and lacks depth. It's really a sandbox game without any true purpose or goals, so it gets boring really quickly. The research tree is as basic as it gets, everything you can unlock with "science points" is viewable from the start, nothing special is required to get anything except various amounts of time. You can't upgrade buildings, nothing new ever happens, beavers are born and then they die and that's just about it. There's no real challenge to it. I walked away from my game for about two hours and forgot to hit pause. I came back and literally nothing had happened except some of my resources had higher numbers. I find myself alt-tabbing a lot to do other things while the game ran. It's mind numbing, so I guess if you like that kind of game, this one's for you.
I AM BEAVER
Great fun, but make you think as your have the lives of the beavers in your hands.
It's so cute. It's like a city builder but with beavers. What's better than beavers? NOTHING.
