For a vertical slice of a third-person wave based and anime-styled shooter TheDawn is not bad. As far as games made by student go its actually a decent game project. The 3D model of the heroine Maya is tastefully made and look distinct with her cel sahding over the hand-painted environments, especially when viewd from a distance. It was this combination that attracted me from the beginning. After some closer inspection of Maya it becomes clear that the team could have done a much better job with the shaders and textures. The cel shading they use for her becomes rather one-note and make her lack visual depth which more fine-tuned shader-work could have had. But for a debut game its a great start! Storywise it seems to be the worn Terminator/AI against humans plot, which granted in 2026 hits a bit harder to home. Add post apocalyptic theme, an urban setting, a pinch of melancholoy and some Korean voice acting to that and it makes for a pretty appealing fromula. But when it comes to the actually gameplay it gets repetitive and rather dull quickly. The shooting doesnt feel juicy and the mouse + keyboard controls is clunky. When swarmed by enemies its easy to lose your bearings and die quickly, or at least I did so. With some more time in oven, spending more effort on the gunplay and the overall combat design this game could have landed better. Once again, this is a game developed by students so its not fair to expect commercial-grade quality across the board. I'm sure the gameplay adds more depth and variation over time but if a game cannot hook me within the first hour I'm not going to continue with it. There are simply too many other cool and interetsing games I want to check out and try instead. So while I'm not recommending TheDawn for its gameplay I'm recommending it as a case study of a student-made NPR/anime-styled third person shooter. Since this is the debut game for this studio I believe the team and the individual members in it will have a bright future in the game industry.

Сложность. Высокий порог вхождения для новичков. Ограниченный контент. Небольшой размер игрового мира. Одиночный режим. Нет мультиплеера. Итог TheDawn — атмосферная игра для любителей приключений и шутеров. Привлекает уникальным сеттингом и возможностью управлять временем в сражениях. Однако технические проблемы и однотипные миссии могут снизить удовольствие от игры. Подойдёт тем, кто ищет динамичный экшен с элементами приключений и киберпанка.
