About

12 March 1938. Renée, 16 years old, is ripped out of her world, locked up and deprived of everything.
Her only fault was that she didn't know what her place in the world was.
"A danger to herself and others and a cause of public scandal" wrote the police headquarters.
The only horror you will find in this game is the truth: a blow to the solar plexus, much more intense than any supernatural presence

super bleak. I know it's a horror game but you're just walking around getting snippets of someone's horrific life and there doesn't seem to be any point. I'm also not clear on whose POV I have. some random person possessed by renee? a medium? i
This is not a horror game in my opinion. Though, horror comes in many forms. The evil that men do, is often more horrific then any ghost or urban legend. And that applies to this game. This game is not fun either. But that is not the point of this game. This is an art piece that has something important to say. A piece of history that is important to not forget. Victims that deserve to have their stories told and be remembered. It's a sad and difficult game to go through at times. But the message is more important then most games you will come across. For that reason I do recommend the game, but only for those that have an interest in things such as this and are willing to look at the darker side of society.
i am not a fan of the nowadays triggerwarnings all over for practically everything, but in the case of this game, i would strongly advice not to be played by directly affected people (if u have affected relatives, it should be fine or might even be useful for reflection in a way) gameplaywise, its a pretty relaxed exploration experience in a beautiful asylum ruin & surrounding (no chases, no actual enemys), but storywise the emotional spectrum is somewhere between wanting to puke & feeling ur blood boil i think the narrative approach is indisputably a masterpiece with its own soul (i especially praise way of the depiction of
heavy dissociation
& the possibility to
influence/direct her selfmonologue
) .. no need here for artificial sadness/horror/mementos, this game is far above that by its sincerity .. i (personally so far) have never seen similar on-point from what i know all over hollywood or similar themed (+metaphoric) games (except books & primary sources ofc).. i also really like the many hidden documents, places & chapters(!) that can still be found .. what i dislike is that the 8 main-pages of her diary are somewhat missable in the first run (i only missed 1 but wanted to read it coherent after the first playtrough) i didnt expect german voice acting in this (and iam not into both the german streamers that gave their voice) but they did a very good job, their tone fits extremely well the more u get to know about the chars
Kein Feelgood-Spiel: Die Geschichte, die man nach und nach aufdeckt, ist bedrückend, aber man will dann auch wissen, was geschehen ist.
4/10
The game itself presents a compelling premise by offering a historical portrayal which investigates the roots of mental health treatment, giving us enough material to reflect, as a society, our own morals and humanity. The storytelling is amazing, using non-linear mechanics and different art styles in the gameplay that heighten the horror experienced by the character.
Well, in terms of gameplay, it’s just functional at best, the graphics are okay but plagued by glitches, and there’s a lot of backtracking, plus it’s sometimes hard to find important items. It sounds like the game is average at best, and yet I think it’s great. It’s simply a digital history lesson meant to remember the victims who are far too often forgotten, and anyone capable of even a little bit of empathy will still be thinking about it weeks after finishing the game. It's not a pleasant experience and sometimes you have a lump in your throat, and yet you still want to keep going. In the end, I'm just grateful that there are developers who tackle such difficult topics, and I hope there will be more of them in the future.
