Like a half-forgotten dream.
a great vn, despite relying on breaking the 4th wall just as all the other goats of the genre, the style and form are definitely something trailblazing
Got bullied by a mushroom for drinking water. 10/10 would recommend.

A surprisingly deep and atmospheric dark fantasy tale The Thief, the Toad, the Witch, and the Mushroom is a really well-crafted game that ended up surprising me. It blends rich lore with existential themes, cleverly playing with narrative expectations to create a very unique storytelling experience. What initially feels like a simple fairy tale quickly opens up into a narrative with branching paths, multiple endings, and plenty of twists. One of the strongest points of the game is its cast. The characters gain a lot of depth as you explore their different routes, and I found myself genuinely caring about them by the end. The game also heavily rewards thorough exploration. It gives you all the clues you need to piece the deeper mysteries together, provided you pay close attention and approach the story from slightly unconventional angles. The art style is absolutely fantastic. It works perfectly together with the music to build a moody, deeply engaging atmosphere that pulls you right in. Finally, I have a lot of respect for the development behind this. The creator utilized free, open-source tools and public domain materials to build this world, and the game itself is completely free and open-source as well. It’s a great example of how much you can achieve with good writing and a clear creative vision. I am genuinely shocked that this game hasn't gotten more attention yet. If you are a fan of visual novels, this is an absolute must-play.
Está bastante chulo
I will give this another chance if I am able to, but I didn't get the chance to play much due to soft-locking myself.. At the start of the game, I clicked the pronoun before typing the name, and so it auto-set the name to Charlie. Even when I tried to change it in the settings, it didn't apply to the story for some reason. I went further into the story to see if the problem persisted, but there is no way to restart a playthrough once it is begun, and you can only go back a certain amount of pages, so in doing so I soft-locked myself into the random choices I made without reading & the name Charlie... I also thought if I could skip through the story, I could start a fresh playthrough, but my game crashed twice in the process of going back & forth so I think I need to try this on another account sometime. I was really looking forward to playing! I do recommend to anyone who doesn't make the mistakes I did, you should have a smooth playthrough.
oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh. This is I think one of my favourite games I've played, ever, and it's FREE??? play it now, just do it, trust me, do it. Anyway, I love this game! As an Australian who loves fairy tales, folklore, mythology and mushrooms, I feel like it was made for me. It was the perfect mix of scary and funny (my favourite character was probably the thief, they were hilarious), and the ending (at least the one I got), was so good. The only thing I'm sad about is that I can't play it again now, or go to the abandoned candy factory, or the goose caves. I can tell the creator really did his research, so many of the phrases and characters were straight out of Grimm's fairy tales- like the devil's grandmother plucking his hairs. And of course, I love the the wolf who doesn't exist because there are no wolves in Australia. There were only two bugs I found. One, at one point it changed my name to charlie, and I couldn't change it back, though maybe that was because I was in the middle of a story. Two, one of the tracks was looping and playing over the other music, and I couldn't make it stop, which was frustrating, especially when I got to the final song, because I couldn't appreciate it properly. But these were only annoying because they inhibited my enjoyment of this MASTERPIECE of a game. Play it play it play it. And the guy who made this game, if you're reading this, you're incredible, and I love you.
great game but please fix the soft lock where when the game starts again I can't press begin or continue.
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ what the HELL was that
