Decently impressive, but also strangely amateurish and easily improved
This is essentially an Unreal Engine 5 tech demo in the shape of a 15-20 minute game, taking place in one small location, the namesake market. It's visually nice, decent enough gameplay experience, but seriously lacking as a tech demo (technically and visually), if you dig a bit below the surface: While immediately visually impressive, it's also kinda not; the demo takes up 23 GB of storage space, where presumably the vast amount of space is taken up by high-resolution textures. This doesn't really come across as an obvious thing, though. I'd argue that I've had similar visual fidelity-experiences in other games, where the whole game, with multiple, larger locations have taken up the same or less amount of storage. For a tech demo, some obvious things are lacking: - No built-in counters for FPS, number of triangles/vertexes rendered and so on - No wireframe view - No graphical settings options, except two resolutions: native desktop resolution and "Full HD" (1920x1080'ish scaled up to desktop resolution). This is relevant not only to turn off the awful motion blur, but especially to demonstrate turning on/off some of the features of UE5, like Nanite, lighting techniques, etc. It's also relevant to demonstrate not only what is possible with a newer top-of-the-line card, but also to demonstrate how much visual fidelity UE5 can produce for (or, in the confines of) older cards. -- In particular no texture options, where an option to switch between "'normal game' quality" and what is used by default here, would make a ton of sense. Controls are very clunky, for example the way turning reacts differently whether you're moving ahead slowly or at speed ("turbo mode"). I would have assumed that this sort of thing (movement controls) would already be in a library in Unreal Engine, so that you wouldn't have to invent the wheel from scratch each time. Or maybe the technology is fine, and the devs just implemented the code improperly. It's not actually the biggest of deals, but it's a symptom. That being said, a recommendation is of course still in order, despite my critiques. - It is a nice enough little experience, it's free, and it's worth spending a bit of time on (although NOT if you have a problem with downloading 20+ GB, only to delete it again soon after) - The whole thing is probably just the result of the studio having a project to get everybody internally acquainted with a new engine, in preparation for a future game, and so couldn't spend more time on polish and features, except to package it up and send it out in the world.

Well, it won't run, says I don't have directx12 on a system with: intel 13th generation cpu. Intel extreme edition cpu won't run unreal engine 5. They won't tell anyone that the intel microcode design flaw is massive and if they admitted, it would mean their bankruptcy. So they will act like updating the microcode fixed the problem when it does not. And apparently they send you a new cpu that will have the same problem after a few years even if you never overclock and have done bios updates, because intel is not telling anyone that this affects a MASSIVE amount of cpus, they are just letting you all reinstall your OS's and vid drivers and games, and doing useless game file verifiying. All unreal engine 5 games work on the steam deck, and my older 7860intel cpu, but this newer Extreme Edition cpu ($2k) with a rtx 4090 won't run ANY unreal engine 5 game. And to fix the problem you basically need a new motherboard, memory and cpu, and intel doesn't want to pay for your replacement, so they have swept it all under the rug. I don't want to downrate the game, but I must do this to all unreal engine games to bring attention to this intel flaw that intel refuses to pay for. Just download this free game and watch it crash or freeze at loading on your 13/14 generation cpu, then start the tears beacause replacing a 4k pc is not going to happen, you just won't play any unreal engine 5 game.
This free demo managed on a GTX 970, though I did not play in full HD. Beautiful demo, most of the textures were fantastic with only a few spots that looked a bit off (close up of the carrots comes to mind.) The control felt a bit spongy and it was easy to overshoot. Folks with motion sensitivity may feel the camera a little bit - You can control your movement speed to a degree (by how much you press the turbo) but not the camera turn speed.
