played this game since release. Mainly stuck to story and with the expansion the factions as well. Havent played in 2-3 months. Can we get an update? I want to come back but theres nothing pulling me to play... After months of waiting the devs "moved on to other things" frauds of the Tolkien community. I hope they fail after this. The game wasnt profound by anymeans but heald the fandom at bay. Game sucks. Disappointed. The company are wolves in sheep skins. Feel bad for nerd of the rings for interviewing these con artists. Well done team, youve conned a fan base. Hope youre proud of yourselves. What trash people.
I am posting this review on behalf of my wife who played via Steam Family Sharing: So I just 100%ed the game and felt like I should write a review (I played the entire game solo.) TLDR: More LOTR dwarf lore is always appreciated, game is suuuper mid. I did have points where I had fun which is why I'm giving it a thumbs up. At the very beginning the gameplay loop felt fun. Go out from your base, mine, kill things, get materials, come back, craft. Basically the same loop of any other open world survival craft. There's a level of verticality that doesn't exist in other games of the same genre, specifically because you'll spend the entire game exploring mine shafts and caves. Learning how to traverse the world is part of what sets this game apart from others. There's a part near the beginning of the campaign where you need a higher tier of pickaxe to get to the next zone. I spent a few hours mining and creeping around groups of enemies that'd rock my ♥♥♥♥ if I wandered too close. Once I got the pickaxe and fought off a horde, I opened the way to the next zone...only to find that my new pickaxe that I spent effort to get is now next to worthless. I can't mine several of the new materials that the new zone has. I need to progress FURTHER into the zone, with weapons and armour that are ineffective against the new enemies. This continued for the rest of the game. For each new zone I'd enter, the pace would grind to a halt and I'd have to slog through the vast majority of the zone before reaching the equipment I'd need to pick the pace up again. While there is a level of progression with new building options, weapons, armour, and consumables with each new zone, NONE of the unlocks felt like I had accomplished anything. The buffs you'd get from the new food didn't last too much longer. No matter the weapon, you'd swing it around as if you were in a PS1 game. The only thing I liked was the teleportation stone (mapstone) that you'd need to build to prevent the slog back to your encampment (if you forgot coal to build a fire so you can actually place a mapstone, tough ♥♥♥♥, the zone doesn't spawn any.) As for replayability, I feel relieved that it's over, and I don't plan on opening the game again. I feel like that says a lot. Great if you like LOTR, dwarves, and wanted more lore, but the gameplay is certainly nothing to write home about.
This review may contain spoilers.
Who hasn't dreamed of embarking on their own adventure in the beloved world of The Lord of the Rings?! Return to Moria is one of the better games based on the movies, even if it was only a brief diversion. You play as a dwarf in the Mines of Moria and can move around the world more or less freely, with the story guiding your path. In about 40 hours, we saw everything, defeated everything, finished the story, and unlocked 100% of the achievements. We could certainly have spent even more hours on it if we’d focused more on building, which we didn’t do. If the game is on sale, it’s a definite must-buy! ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬⠀▬▬▬⠀▬▬⠀▬ Positive things + A well-crafted world that did a good job of reflecting the mines. + Achievements. + All achievements are very easy to unlock. + Crafting from the chests in the base. + The dwarves singing was always a sweet little detail. + Teleporters have helped to avoid constant back-and-forth travel. + No stamina consumption while mining is a great thing. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬⠀▬▬▬⠀▬▬⠀▬ Negative things - The selection of weapons is okay, but unfortunately the “abilities” aren't very varied. - There is no “stack all” option in the inventory. - Sadly, none of the bosses were really that difficult compared to the usual trolls or hordes. - It would have been nice to see more focus on cooking, brewing, and food, or maybe even topics like animals and farms. - It would be nice if we could recycle old equipment or take it apart for parts. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬⠀▬▬▬⠀▬▬⠀▬ Just a personal note The game had so much more potential, which it unfortunately didn't live up to. It would have been nice to have something like a skill tree to create different builds, more variety in the enemies, or more bosses. I also would have preferred it if the armor didn’t just extend the health bar, but actually reduced damage by a certain percentage. All of these points are just my personal preferences, so I wouldn’t take them as a negative. Return to Moria was fun and made for a great little adventure to play in between other games. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬⠀▬▬▬⠀▬▬⠀▬ Mods & Guides Return to Moria - 100% Achievement Guide [ENG] ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬⠀▬▬▬⠀▬▬⠀▬ If you have any questions about the game or my rating, please feel free to contact me! Exploration is fun, as is base building. Lots of cool dwarf lore in the game. But combat in this game is so ass, which is a big problem because they shove it in your face constantly. Combat progression is nonexistent, the combat mechanics are dull and clunky, and it constantly spawns enemies whenever you're trying to explore.

Loads of fun if you like exploring. The core of this game's progression is getting deeper into the mountain's caves to get better materials to make better equipment. Also a lot of little things that make it really charming, like singing and drinking for buffs.
