Game starts of pretty good, but once you start progressing, you realize how horribly paced progression actually is. About mid-game, you'll constantly hear your dwarf say "I need a better weapon!" up until you clear the game even if you keep up on upgrading weapons. The combat and enemy AI is abysmal, there is no challenge, and your armor gets chunked away after 3 hits, even with the best available armor. Besides building the crafting stations and beds, there is no reason to build anything at all. the storage buildings are useless and can just be replaced by a chest with more storage slots. The story is lack-luster, the ending even worse. Cannot recommend this game at all. 3/10
this game was terrible please do not waste your money, what a waste of a franchise ip
Game died a death of a thousand cuts. Every mechanic has a bunch of little frustrations that pile on. Have to move your base constantly, hit detection for mining is wildly off (I routinely mined the stone behind the ore the UI said I was targeting), combat is awkward, food and time tracking are way too in depth so you have to keep returning to base to eat the correct meal at the correct time. And It throws DLC purchase at you before you've even started playing.
This game is like punching in a dream while thigh deep in mud. There was special attention was paid to the LOTR branding and the game has some clever ideas, but it's ultimately incapable of following through on the promise it had. An example of the game's failures: In LOTR book stuff there's a fair amount of song related things, and Return to Moria decided to embrace that in various ways. One is there's a pillar thing you can build/repair to stop these shadow vents that do damage over time when you're near them, after they're repaired you sing to activate it and clear the shadow. Cool idea. The problem is the map is procedural generation, these dumb shadow vents generate all over and only some of them have a ruined pillar nearby, so you'll often show up to an area and a shadow vent is blocking progress. You don't get the repair materials for a bit so fixing it is out, 10-20 hours in I can't build them, thus you either run past it or realise it only damages you if you're standing on the ground with it, meaning you leave ugly trails of quick build platforms to cross the area. Meanwhile enemies are seemingly unbothered by it and just attack you or your platforms gleefully, so if you want to fight them you take the damage, lure them out or use a bow. The damage sucks and healing food is wasted on that, the bow's animation is as unsatisfying as the DVD logo missing the corner and luring them out has a 30/30/30 chance of them getting trapped on the room edge, ranged attacking you from the shadow or just forgetting you exist. Meanwhile during the fight, enemies do the most repetitive animations and hit you with weak looking attacks that would do half your health without armour (which is like a second health bar you have to fix, long expeditions without repairs suck). You respond with a dodge-roll that only works cause i-frames, a block that was supposedly a parry but it looks the same, and an attack that'll lock you to the wrong enemy while zooping you around (also not doing enough damage). The same cascading unpleasantness applies to most of the game, and while I love a lot of the ideas on display, it just makes me wish it was done properly instead of this half-finished full release. Like c'mon guys, there's not even a sleep animation, you just stand there menacingly saying "I'm asleep".
at first, i was just trying to find any multiplayer games to play with my siblings on holiday. then i found this game! it's so fun, we played it for 5 hours straight at one go. building activities took me away immediately, and also the exploring! your should also see your friends' faces when they die cuz of the goblin/wolves LOL we had so much fun! would like to play it again once we have another free time~
Got it from this month's humble. it's ass.
Repetitive gameplay, building and combat systems are weird (but there's cancel animation during fight which is great). Game progression is frustrating and stamina system as well as character requires sleep every 10 minutes. Environnement looks great, yet nothing is really memorable, especially as overall cave sytem makes no sense. Caves should contain way more minable voxel terrain. Coop doesn't offer much except that killing stuff a bit more easily. We all lose interest and stopped playing the game for above reasons. (Meaning here i didn't finish the game) 5/10 i would say, not THAT bad, just...meh
We're playing this as a family, my son and wife on their PS5's, me on the PC with another PC running as a dedicated server. Absolutely loving it, the mechanics, the story, the combat. There's a little grinding, ok a lot of grinding, before you start to make genuine progress and more than a few glitches. But, all said and done, it's a great game!
Siendo sincera, no puedo recomendarlo.
