THE LONG DARK is a thoughtful, exploration-survival experience that challenges solo players to think for themselves as they explore an expansive frozen wilderness in the aftermath of a geomagnetic disaster. There are no zombies -- only you, the cold, and all the threats Mother Nature can muster.

Thanks for publishing the last chapter after 6 bazillion years
Entrei achando que o maior desafio seria o frio. Estava errado. The Long Dark não tenta te assustar com monstros.
wtf is this to have story mode outside of the game. And if you want to buy the story mode you have to repay for the survival mode. Why would you even play the survival mode before the story mode?
This is what you whuld get if put green hell in a freezer for 24 hours graet prefer survival mode as i am very bad at floowing stoylines in games lols.
This review is primarily for the Wintermute story as I have not played the survival mode. Overall I thought the game was pretty bad, and it was incredibly slow and frustrating to play. I get the game is supposed to be a harder survival game that puts a lot of focus on the environment but I have honestly never been as bored during a story as I was during this game. I could look past the slow gameplay if the story was good, sadly the story was not good and was all over the place with a horrible ending. 90% of the choices made by the characters in the game made 0 sense and were just so poorly executed and thought out. This was especially true in episode 5, oh man was episode 5 so poorly written it was unreal. I am no expert story teller, but being honest episode 5 seems like it was written by some poorly designed AI. Below is a summary is my progression through the episodes and my thoughts at the time. Episode 1: Slow game play, but that was to be expected going into the game. The story at the time was at least interesting/mysterious and it kept me wanting to continue to play the game. Episode 2: Similar to episode 1 however I enjoyed some of the gameplay more in this one. It was still very slow however. You have to cross what feels like huge distances and good luck if you sprint through them. Firstly sprinting is punished so hard in this game that you need to rest frequently if you want to get anywhere fast. Secondly you can carry a very little amount of items. Again I know its supposed to be more realistic than other survival games but at least up the carry weight a little bit. Lastly the notes you find along the way that give you little side missions do not matter at all. Sure they lead you to caches or other hidden supplies but I was rarely out of any supplies and often found myself dropping stuff to stay under the carry limit. Another aspect that builds on this is that a lot of the items just feel worthless. For example I played through the entire story without ever using a whetstone, gun cleaning kit, or the Jerry can of gas. To me they were just a waste of inventory space but I kept telling myself "maybe these will be helpful". Apart from all that I kept playing because the story was still interesting enough to keep me going. Episode 3: This is where the game really goes downhill for me. Episode 3 was the most bored I have ever been in a video game in my entire life. 95% of this episode was walking to different places and then walking back to where I was but this time much slower. This episode alone made me almost quit the game and overall just felt like a massive waste of time. Episode 4: For me this is where the story beings to fall apart. Add this to episode 3 where the gameplay falls apart and the game just starts to become pretty bad. The gameplay was a bit more interesting in this chapter which somewhat made up for the story starting to go south. The writing and interaction between some of the characters comes off as just weird or cringey at times. I still have the same gripes about slow gameplay but I felt like this area of the game was a bit smaller than the others so I did not find myself spending as much time running place to place. Also I learned from episode 3 that most of the items I picked up were worthless so I kept myself pretty low carry weight to move through pretty fast. Also one final thing I noticed in this episode was the number of bugs I ran into. Not sure about everyone else but I ran into a crazy amount of bugs, and some were basically softlocks that I had to reload a save to fix. I should have stopped here but thought "one more episode might as well see the end of the story" Episode 5: This is where the game becomes really bad for me. As more of the story is pieced together and told to you I realized the story is honestly just bad. The intrigue I had from the first episodes was gone and I realized this has been a huge waste of my time. The writing in this episode was so bad, and the actions/interactions between all of the characters was just horrible. Certain things happened in this chapter that caused me to laugh and sit back and think of how bad that truly was. Overall the ending was horrible and made absolutely no sense. It wasn't that the story was confusing, I thought it was pretty straight forward, its just that the actions taken by characters at the end make no sense to me. This goes back to my earlier points of the writing being bad, and to me it seems like they rushed this so that they could tie this into the next game. Overall based on the story I would not recommend this game to anyone, no matter how much it costs at the time. I have read/heard good things about the survival aspect of the game, but I will never try it after the horrible experience I had from the story.
