THE LONG DARK is a thoughtful, exploration-survival experience that challenges solo players to think for themselves as they explore an expansive frozen wilderness in the aftermath of a geomagnetic disaster. There are no zombies -- only you, the cold, and all the threats Mother Nature can muster.

I do like that game in a way. Spent many hours watching survival stories from that game when i was a young teen. The desire to play the game and complete the storyline was sitting silently in the back of my mind for ages by now and finally i did it. I specifically prevented myself from spoilering the main story of Wintermute. The views, the nature and artstyle in itself in this game are amazing. Things you see on screenshots on the page of this game are a clear representation of how good it looks. The survival is alright, even though the shooting part seems a bit stiff for my liking, but it's good overall. So, if the game is so good why can't i recommend it? The answear is storyline. It's so f*cking d*gshit it's hard to believe how d*gshit it is. So horrendously stupid i've lost braincells trying to make any sence of it. It looks like the authors never ever questioned the logic and actions of their characters, just implemented the first thing that comes to mind to fit it into the story they imagined. The characters are so dumbf*ck retarted i wished every one of them to fail and off themselves. The main villain is just annoying. Suprisingly he, as a character, isn't that bad and has integrity and logic, even though it feels he has the script of the game somewhere in his pocket. I hate the guy, but at least he makes sence. So, a psychopathic, violent, crazy convict with anger issues is a more coherent character than the rest of the cast. He could have been killed twenty thousand times, but not a single character did a single sh*t about those opportinities, because that's why. Why a woman who claimed to want to kill bad men and actually doing so, didn't do sh*t to kill their leader? Because that's why Why are there a quadrillion wolves on that damn island and why do they move like laggy models from games from 2006? Because that's why. Why didn't MacKenzie's friends helped him out and killed all the convicts in the end (like 6 unarmed convicts verses 2 armed people)? Because that's why, f*ck you MacKenzie, you're a martyr. Why did MacKenzie just joined the convicts gang? Because that's why. Why did they even let MacKenzie join, when MethAss(the main villain) wanted to kill him? Because MacKenzie is a second Jesus and they can't hurt him now. Obviously. Why did they follow him to help burn the Grey Mother's body? A dumb question, cause MacKenzie is Jesus, bruh. Why did MacKenzie fell asleep in a radio tower a HUNDRED F*CKING METERS from the town OCCUPIED BY CONVICS WHO WANT HIM DEAD instead of doing what he f*cking said he was going to do and going to meet his friends who had been waiting for him? Because that's why. He's tired bro, he can't use 20 of those experimental energy giving sticks that are used for emergencies you've collected. It isn't an emergency. He doesn't want to use those cocaine sticks, his body is a church, he's Jesus after all. Why do the characters throw out in trash all the sh*t you've collected in the previous chapter? MacKenzie just threw away a f*cking shotgun, several rifles and several revolvers just to get his ass beaten repetedly throught the episodes. Why? Because that's why. He's a pacifist and The Jesus F*CKING Christ obviously. When an insane homocidal convic hits you in the face - turn the other cheek. This is ridiculous. Don't ever play Wintermute. I'd rather play shrek 2 the game than this. The regular survival is actually worth a try if you are looking for some nice views or a survival experience
TLDR Excellent survival game, but Wintermute’s story took nearly a decade to finish and the ending felt rushed, underdeveloped, and reliant on plot convenience. Strong gameplay and atmosphere, weak narrative payoff. I would recommend it for survival, not for its story. ------------------------- THE LONG VERSION I bought The Long Dark while it was still in Early Access and waited through every episode of Wintermute over nearly a decade. The survival gameplay, atmosphere, and world-building are excellent, and they are the reason I stayed invested for so long. Unfortunately, the narrative conclusion was a major disappointment. Wintermute took nearly a decade to complete. I appreciate that ambitious projects can take time, and I don’t expect perfection from long-term development. However, such a long wait naturally raised my expectations for a carefully crafted and satisfying finale that properly paid off the story’s main conflicts and character arcs. Instead, the ending felt rushed, with several plot threads left underdeveloped or unresolved, and character motivations that were not sufficiently explained. What disappointed me most was that the final episode relied too often on plot convenience. Several events and character decisions seemed to exist simply to move the story toward its ending, rather than feeling like natural consequences of what had been established earlier in the narrative. Some actions also felt out of character, which made the conclusion feel less earned. Instead of a satisfying payoff after years of anticipation, the ending felt abrupt and left too many questions unanswered. The developer has stated: “We’ve heard that some of you don’t like it. I like it, I believe in it, and it fits into my future plans. Don’t expect a ‘redux’.” I respect the fact that they stand by their creative decision, but for me personally, it reinforced the feeling that the story did not land as intended. After this experience, I no longer have the same confidence in Hinterland’s storytelling that I did when I first bought the game. That said, I would still strongly recommend The Long Dark for its exceptional survival gameplay and atmosphere—it remains one of the best survival experiences available—but not for its narrative conclusion.
wtf is this to have story mode outside of the game. And if you want to buy the story mode you have to repay for the survival mode. Why would you even play the survival mode before the story mode?
Certamente um dos meus jogos favoritos. Transmite uma paz ao mesmo tempo que desafia.
é só o melhor jogo do mundo.
This is what you whuld get if put green hell in a freezer for 24 hours graet prefer survival mode as i am very bad at floowing stoylines in games lols.
Loved the first 4 episodes. But episode 5 ruined the game for me. Cringe cutscenes that lead to an ending that didn't make any sense. I usually don’t have high expectations for story-based games, but episode 5 was terrible even by my low standards. Just disappointing is all I can say.
