The Journey: Bob’s Story, developed by Tomas Gonzalez and Martin Pilaszek and published by Tomas Gonzalez, is a small-scale 2D platformer that attempts to combine light puzzle-solving with a reflective, narrative-driven experience. The story centers on Bob, a young boy who ventures into a mysterious cave in search of missing villagers, including someone close to him. This premise sets a quiet, personal tone, framing the adventure as something intimate and emotionally motivated rather than epic or action-heavy. The gameplay focuses on basic platforming and exploration, with players guiding Bob through a series of environments while interacting with objects and solving simple environmental puzzles. Controls are straightforward, making movement easy to understand and accessible to a wide audience. The game does not aim for mechanical complexity, instead favoring a slower pace that encourages players to take in their surroundings. While this simplicity can make the experience approachable, it also means that the gameplay rarely evolves beyond its initial concepts, leading to a loop that can feel repetitive over time. One of the more noticeable aspects of the game is its attempt to build atmosphere through pacing and presentation. The environments are designed to feel quiet and somewhat isolated, with a subdued tone that complements the story’s themes. The soundtrack plays an important role in reinforcing this mood, often carrying emotional weight in moments where the gameplay itself is minimal. There is a clear intention to create a contemplative experience, where players are meant to reflect on the journey rather than be constantly challenged. However, this focus on atmosphere comes at the expense of engagement. Extended periods of simple traversal can make the pacing feel uneven, especially when there is little variation in mechanics or challenges. The puzzle design, while occasionally interesting, is inconsistent—some puzzles are overly simple, while others can feel unclear or poorly communicated. This lack of balance can interrupt the flow of the game, turning moments that should feel rewarding into instances of confusion or frustration. The game also includes elements of choice and multiple endings, suggesting an attempt to add replay value and narrative depth. While this is a promising idea, it is not fully developed, and the impact of these choices can feel limited. The branching elements do not significantly alter the overall experience, which reduces their effectiveness as a meaningful gameplay feature. Visually, The Journey: Bob’s Story presents a modest 2D style that supports its gameplay without drawing much attention to itself. The environments are functional and occasionally effective in setting the tone, but they lack the detail and variety needed to create a memorable visual identity. Character animations and overall presentation are similarly basic, reinforcing the impression of a project with limited resources. Despite its shortcomings, there are moments where the game’s intentions come through clearly. The combination of a personal narrative, subdued atmosphere, and simple mechanics creates a few instances of quiet immersion, particularly for players who appreciate slower-paced experiences. These moments highlight the potential of the concept, even if the execution does not fully deliver on it. Ultimately, The Journey: Bob’s Story is a game with a sincere vision that is not fully supported by its design. It offers an accessible and occasionally thoughtful experience, but its repetitive gameplay, uneven pacing, and lack of mechanical depth prevent it from achieving a stronger impact. It may appeal to players looking for a simple, atmospheric journey, but those seeking more engaging or polished gameplay are likely to find it lacking. Rating: 5/10
Not a good game. Mostly just walking. The puzzles are horrible. There's an entire section of the game dedicated to a puzzle system that is not explained and no one has put up any sort of explanation for it. The movement is full go all the time so if you try to do little movements for jumping, you'll more often than not just go flying and miss. You'll also get caught on the walls when jet-packing, causing you to either just have to refuel and repeat the jump or you fall to your death. The audio completely cuts out in the final room of the lab so be prepared to play in silence for about 20 minutes while you go back and forth multiple times in that 1 room.
🎮 Reseña de The Journey: Bob's Story

If you like exploring then this could be for you. Sadly for me it became very boring very quickly when I just started running around in circles.
💋
