One night The Grandfather went to give his wife a good night kiss, she ignored him as usual, this broke his heart every night. He went to sleep in his own bed, full of misery as usual, but this night would turn out to be different than the others.

"The Grandfather" is a simple "more art than game" narrative experience with rather striking and disturbing artwork and a depressing theme about old age and misery. Lacklustre technical implementation combined with poor puzzle design lead this to fail to garner attention from gamers. What do you do in the game? Float around and click on stuff in the right order to solve various unintuitive and nonsensical puzzles. The game features really lacklustre 2D visuals (does the developer not know 3D graphics became mainstream in the mid-1990s?). Gamers don't spend thousands of dollars on gaming rigs and the latest 3D graphics cards to play 2D games. Even mobile phones and game consoles can do 3D graphics now. There's no excuse. On the matter of pricing and value for gamers, most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's often nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable, or something you might want to spend your time on. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 4 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
Hard to comment on this game, because it's quite unordinary and not to majority's liking, but I think I would recommend playing it just for some original experience. I wouldn't play it again tho.
Leaning more to the cinematic world of weird-wave animations, from which it is clearly influenced, The Grandfather is a disturbing and dark short puzzle game, with an eerie atmosphere and unsettling imagery, that greatly supplement the story of the depressed protagonist. Definitely not a game for anyone, but certainly a treat for the enjoyers of absurd media and bizare narratives !
прикольная
would love to enjoy this game/story but I'd have to be able to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hear it first if you're gonna make a narrative heavy game, the least you can do is provide subtitles. especially if you're gonna drown the dialogue out with sound effects and music. apparently the grandfather was available to purchase at one point, I'm glad I stumbled on it after it was listed as free to play, because I'd be kinda salty if I paid money for a game I couldn't play due to accessibility issues
cool game
QUE JOGO MERDA DO KRL
I did enjoy this game for the dark atmosphere and creepy art style. The puzzles don't make a lot of sense, and I must admit I did not have the patience to figure them all out myself, but still I enjoyed the art style and story nonetheless. 5/10.
