The Forsaken Anthology: Obsession, developed and published by Austin Boggs, is a tightly focused psychological horror experience that centers on the destructive nature of desire and the slow unraveling of a person consumed by it. Rather than presenting a broad or complex narrative, the game narrows its attention to a single perspective and a confined setting, allowing it to explore its themes with an intimate and often uncomfortable intensity. It is the kind of horror that leans less on spectacle and more on emotional unease, gradually pulling the player into a story where the line between choice and compulsion becomes increasingly blurred. The story follows an ordinary individual whose life begins to fracture after forming a connection with a dark, otherworldly presence. What starts as a seemingly beneficial arrangement quickly turns into something far more sinister, as the protagonist becomes entangled in a cycle of escalating obsession. The narrative unfolds in a linear fashion, revealing its details through environmental cues, dialogue fragments, and scripted moments that slowly build a picture of psychological decline. There is a strong sense of inevitability in how events progress, as if the player is witnessing a descent that cannot be stopped, only experienced. This approach gives the story a bleak and oppressive tone that lingers throughout the entire playthrough. Gameplay is intentionally minimal, focusing on exploration, interaction, and light puzzle-solving. Players navigate a small but carefully constructed environment, examining objects, unlocking areas, and triggering events that move the narrative forward. There are no combat mechanics or complex systems to manage, which places the emphasis squarely on immersion and atmosphere. This design works well in reinforcing the game’s tone, but it also means that the experience depends heavily on the player’s engagement with the story and environment. Those who enjoy slow, deliberate exploration will likely appreciate the pacing, while others may find the lack of mechanical variety limiting. The pacing is measured and deliberate, allowing tension to build gradually rather than relying on constant stimulation. Quiet moments of exploration are used to establish familiarity with the environment, which makes later disturbances feel more impactful. As the narrative progresses, the atmosphere becomes increasingly oppressive, with subtle changes in the surroundings hinting at the protagonist’s deteriorating mental state. While this slow burn approach is effective in creating unease, it can occasionally feel uneven, particularly in sections where the player is simply moving through spaces without significant interaction. The balance between storytelling and gameplay is clearly weighted toward the former. Visually, the game adopts a grounded, realistic style that enhances its sense of immersion. The apartment setting feels lived-in and believable, with attention given to small details that make the environment feel authentic. This realism is crucial, as it provides a stable baseline that the game can gradually distort. As the story unfolds, changes to the environment become more pronounced, creating a sense of disorientation that mirrors the protagonist’s internal struggle. Lighting plays a significant role in shaping the mood, with shadows and confined spaces contributing to the overall feeling of tension and isolation. The sound design is particularly effective in reinforcing the psychological aspects of the horror. Ambient noises, distant echoes, and carefully placed moments of silence work together to create a constant sense of unease. Rather than relying on loud or sudden scares, the game uses sound to build anticipation and keep the player on edge. This subtle approach complements the visual design, allowing the atmosphere to develop naturally and maintain its impact over time. In terms of length, the game is relatively short, offering a concise experience that can be completed in a single sitting. Its linear structure and lack of branching paths mean that there is little incentive to replay once the story has been fully uncovered. However, this brevity also works in its favor, as it prevents the experience from overstaying its welcome and allows the narrative to remain focused and impactful. Overall, The Forsaken Anthology: Obsession is a well-crafted psychological horror title that succeeds in delivering a cohesive and unsettling experience within a limited scope. Its strengths lie in its atmosphere, thematic focus, and ability to create tension through subtlety, while its weaknesses stem from minimal gameplay depth and limited replay value. It stands as a compelling example of how a small, narrative-driven game can leave a lasting impression through careful design and a clear creative vision. Rating: 6/10
An interesting game ^^ scared the crap out of me pahahahaha Puzzles werent hard and had a nice ambient ^^ only thing i didnt understand much its the very ending xD Got the game for free on keymailer. Spooky
What started off, a very nice looking, unusual and intriguing game, quickly turned into a performance issue mess with some serious performance issues, not just on Ultra but in general, my system runs anything currently available flawlessly so this shouldn't be happening. The random nature of the "walk around" (there is no sprint) and randomly click on things, hoping to progress the game or be greeted by the same voice loop of "you cant do anything with that etc." became tiring quickly, the puzzles (i actually managed to solve) made no logical sense and I ended up just randomly clicking things, again hoping for the best. Going back to the visuals, the game had some really nice lighting but at times was also a bit too dark. Sound was very limited and apart from the odd voice line, scream or sound effect there wasn't much to get excited about. The game may appeal to someone looking for a quick horror fix but even at the low price of £4 I would look elsewhere. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2283157929
The Forsaken Anthology: Obsession's voices are too quiet and cant be turned up which is kind of annoying to me as i can barely hear it and cant make it louder for stream either. Another gripe is that there is a lot of space in between you and what you need to interact with making it feel like you can't reach what you want to. Wasn't super scary. 6/10
love
La verdad es que es un juego que no me dio sensación ni buena ni mala, no estaría tan bien como para recomendarlo, pero tampoco como para decir que es malo. Walking simulator cortito con ambientación de terror, pero al que le falta más terror.
Im not hungry enough to leave a review
