Pros: Very well designed characters, in terms of personality and graphic Full voice-over Simple control okayish puzzle Cons: Framerate drops heavily when enter the first several rooms after you start a new game or load a saved game The checkpoints are far away from each other The combat system is meaningless, since your attack uses spiritual energy while you can't kill any monster at all and your health will regenerate slowly. So why not just walk away? The first boss moves too fast, and thus this scene become a pure trial-and-error process. Most importantly, the game crashes frequently, for me it was 3 times in 1.5 hours.
Solid game The gameplay with it's fluid controls is very fun, music great and the artstyle just makes it all the more pleasing. The writing and voice acting was really good for an amateur's work in my opinion (Jyl's voice doesn't even sound like a fresh voice actor and Rina's becomes irreplaceable). Will be eagerly waiting for the next episodes even if they take an episode per year to make cause good work like this always takes alot of time and effort.
I have fallen in love with this game. The art style (which is all hand drawn!), the atmosphere (the level design, the real sense of danger from enemies, creature design and sound design), and the game mechanics (choices in first person or traditional attack styles, defeat or outlast bosses, avoid enemies, limited sword use, dialogue options, emotion system, fears based on your choices). It is clear the developer has but so much love and attention to detail in this game that is very rarely seen from first time developers. I play a lot of game demos and indie horror games and this is unlike anything I have encountered. I am absolutely smitten with The Dream of Shadowlands! I just uploaded part 1 of my YouTube videos playing this if you want to see (there will be about 6 parts in total, I have played the full episode) --> https://youtu.be/biYfToiOEEE Two of my main critiques are some of the bosses are super hard (the main boss and out running the imp) so I'd appreciate a difficulty option in the future and I noticed when editing my video that I did forget to use some of the game mechanics I was initially excited for (first person combat and talking in save rooms) because they were only mentioned to me in text form at the very start and I forgot. I will be giving to the kickstarter campaign for this game and I highly recommend you do too!
I played this on my YouTube Channel (Sticky XP) & i really love this play style, I'd love to see episode 2 come out soon
I don't like it- In my point of view is the storyline bad and the game is kinda weird. I meaaaan I didn't even finish it... edit (to developer): Hello super friendly developer! Well, regarding to what the demon said he seemed like he should have a calm, supportive and maybe a bit arrogant character but from the tone of the voice actor he just seemed monotonous and sometimes annoyed. That's nothing about the stoyline but it bothered me so that it was harder to get into it. Another thing that I didn't like was also at the beginning. It was how they talked with each other. I mean the human (sorry I forgot their names-) was very scared at the beginning and panicked but then met a demon and talked to him like uh he's a normal stranger... idk... Additionally, there was a conversation which was weird. I think it was about why she should trust him? She was completely in distrust but then he mentioned a good argument and she was like 'Oh yeah you're right' and then fully trusted him or at least it seemed like that. I know you probably just wanted to involve that she doesn't trust him but from the third person point of view she can trust him but this third person point of view what you involve with the argument makes it bad. Maybe the demon could've said something like "If you don't want to get my hep you can try to survive in the shadowlands like a lot other humans tried and btw they died." that would give her only one option, to trust him, and additionally wouldn't involve this third person thing which makes it bad... Oh and more hints would be nice XD
pretty cool but also crashes a lot so they might want to fix that
Tolle Story, hübsche Grafik und interessantes Gameplay. Schwierigkeitsgrad angemessen, Episode 1 macht Lust auf mehr
Works on Win 7. Love the animation and voice work. It's a big resource hog, though. No mouse support, only keyboard and maybe controller, but dunno about controllers
This is a good game
