I'm nearing the end of my first playthrough but I had to write a review because this game is has me in a chokehold and its definitely a strong contender for my GOTY! Sure it's got a few bugs here and there but nothing that cant be patched up and in my time playing there was nothing game breaking. I also want to get one thing clear before I get into the meat of my review to anyone who is considering buying it but may be worried about the 30 day time limit - It really isn't as punishing as you'd think. Yes, you wont be able to do every single quest in one playthrough, but I can say now I've explored nearly the entire map and gotten through a decent chunk of the quests. The game isn't designed to be completed in a single run, which in my opinion is a good thing! It just means you'll get to play it again and I know I'm not going to complain about that. Now to my actual review: THE PROS This game is like a love letter to the Witcher 3, so if you enjoyed that game this will certainly scratch that itch. The storyline is beautifully written, and you really grow to care about Coen and other characters that you meet along the way. No quest is completely the same and at no point did I find myself bored or stuck with what to do next. The world of Vale Sangora is stunning and there were times when I genuinely just stood there for a moment and just took it all in. Photo mode when? The combat is really fun. It took me a little getting used to but once you have the muscle memory down it becomes a lot less daunting. Landing perfect blocks on an enemy is super satisfying but it felt challenging enough that I didn't find myself just sitting back spamming my attack button. You need to lock in and really pay attention to what your enemies are doing which means it rarely feels stale and some fights had me on the edge of my seat in full goblin mode fighting for my life...it was GREAT! Massive replayability! You can really decide how you want to play Coen and the choices you make bring different outcomes, I'm already planning on doing another run where I'm going full evil bloodthirsty vampire mode and I'm excited for it. THE CONS Im a sucker for romances, so far I have done two of them and while I found them both sweet it felt like there could've had a bit more to them. I know that these aren't the main focus of the story, so it makes sense that they aren't given a huge amount of time in the spotlight. But even just being able to go visit them and give them a hug or kiss would've been nice! The UI especially in the journal was hard for me to navigate. Partially due to some bugginess with the controller constantly snapping me back to the top of the quest menu when I tried to scroll down, but also because all the text is the same colour and font. So I often found myself struggling to find quests and ended up with my face pressed against my monitor combing through it several times until I found the one I was looking for. A bit more space between each quest, some more fixes to the controller and making the quest titles bold and a bit bigger would fix all of that for me. My only gripe with the use of time was using it to level up my abilities. I found that I wasn't as precious about it the further I got in, but it added a bit of frustration and reluctancy to spend my points nearly as much as I probably should have. I personally would've preferred that not use up my time or at least have it so it didn't cost 1 time segment per ability. But on the other hand I also understand the reasons why they did and again the 30 day time limit is not quite as terrifying as it sounds so Im willing to let it fly. So to wrap this up - if you enjoy games with rich storytelling, choices that matter, memorable characters and gothic medieval vibes you're gonna love it!
Bestes Spiel seit The Witcher 3
This is the best vampire game I've ever seen! It's like a mix of The Witcher and Vampire: The Masquerade, done right
good
Story is boring, horrible camera angles and targeting, this reason alone 2/10

Can't stop playing! Great game!
Good game. Hope they make a sequel
[SOME SPOILERS FOR EARLY GAME STUFF] honestly wasn't for me. wanted to enjoy the game (went in with basically no knowledge or having watched basically any of the promotional materials. I was introduced to the game by a youtube short of the big bad talking to your character in the burning village towards the beginning and thought it seemed cool. But overall? didn't care for it. thought it was boring, repetitive and felt meaningless. the combat was boring and repetitive, several areas are just: walk into area, fight 8 of the same 2 enemies, kill them walk into the next room and fight another 7 of those same guys from before and then repeat 2 or 3 more times. this coupled with the fact that accidentally getting to close to an enemy either A: actually locks you into an arena or B: basically locks you into an arena where your character can run away but only after running against an invisible wall repeatedly until it finally let me out(maybe a bug but it happened a few times out in the wilderness so it sure feels intentional) the autolock being always on (with a more aggressive lock on being toggleable though honestly I have no clue why you would want to use it) is frustrating and annoying to deal with. I wish at least that the game would swap targets when a second person attacks me instead of swinging at them once on a parry and then swapping back to the first person. the thing that really pushed me into disliking the game was going through the Anca questline/romance and her rejecting you after the romance scene. now I know this won't be a big deal for a lot of people but I'm a sucker for romance and I very much enjoy romance arcs in my games when they're present. but honestly this one just being nonexistent left a very sour taste in my mouth. so sour in fact that I decided to just look up the endings of the game and dear god do none of them sound enticing. it feels like a lot of the decisions don't really matter that much based on the options. the characters also feel kind of wooden for a lot of their interactions and honestly I can't tell if it's an issue with the voice actors themselves or an issue with the writing. so much of the dialogue feels really stiff and like they're just two people practicing lines for a local theater production for the first time. the loot system is also (aside from the one legendary and two epics that I came across) a lot of the same like 3 items repeatedly with slightly different stats. the corruption system feels like it should be more interesting than it actually is as well. as you drink blood (from people understandably but also from animals for some reason?) it increases your corruption which allows you to upgrade your vampire abilities. this, in theory, creates an interesting situation where you have to choose between consuming more blood in order to get stronger so you can take on the big bad, forcing you to balance your humanity with your new partial vampire existence. unfortunately the corruption system doesn't seem to actually corrupt you in any way, it's just an arbitrary second barrier to leveling up your vampire abilities. the time system also often feels really annoying and tedious. everything(except actually walking around) burns segments of your time. want to explore a dungeon? sure makes sense for that to take a varying number of time segments depending on the dungeon. but putting a statue in a destroyed shrine? leveling your skills(each one taking a segment by the way)? just annoying to deal with. those things taking time make me want to avoid doing actual content in the game because if I want to level up my character I have to sacrifice the potential ability to actually interact with the content. or on the opposite end if I want to explore as much of the content as possible I have to forgo leveling up and instead be stuck with worse stats and abilities. that's dumb. personally didn't care for the game. if none of these things bother you about a game, give it a go. hope you enjoy it more than I did. 3/10 couldn't finish.
