For a student project, it is pleasantly polished - but unfortunately, that doesn't hide the flaws. It is an incredibly taxing game for my computer - which usually can handle all pre-2025 games with no issues whatsoever. Optimalisation issues aside, the gameplay is... slow. Hunger drains quickly, resource gathering is tedious, progression is unclear, etc... Good for a student project that is freely available - but as a learning experience, more work is needed.

Settings menu is bugged and I can't save my progress
It's a bug on top of a bug. The game literally freezes, and achievements aren't always honored. There were times when I couldn't return to the game because I was immediately thrown into the water (even though I'd saved the game on land), and I died upon entering the game. After loading or reviving, I died again, as if the textures weren't loading. The boat controls are terrible; you can't get off at times. The gas cylinder for the stove was there, but it disappeared after reviving the character. It was a nightmare.
While "The Archipelago Promise" seems to offer an interesting story, I couldn’t finish it due to numerous issues across different aspects of the game. The only good part is the intro, which hooked me during the first few minutes, even though the characters are, let’s say, ugly. The music is nice and soothing, but that’s where the positives end. Constantly needing to check your watch for health quickly becomes tedious, and keeping yourself alive is unclear. Eating or drinking sometimes makes your health worse like, how is eating a carrot bad? Visual bugs are everywhere, including falling through the water where the world turns completely blue. The music, while good, suffers from awful transitions that completely ruin the atmosphere. The boat mechanics are just as broken. Docking is impossible, you can’t jump off the boat, and leaving the wheel often glitches you into the water. To make matters worse, the autosave system triggers every 10 minutes but doesn’t save during key events, forcing you to replay large sections if something goes wrong. While the game has some potential, its overwhelming technical problems and restrictive gameplay made it unplayable. After losing progress and battling frustrating mechanics, I decided to drop the game.
