I did not enjoy this game. It wasn't challenging so much as it was very aggravating. I purchased this game because it looked almost identical to the Mc2games escape puzzles (Palindrome, Tested on Humans) that I absolutely love. The sounds, how you interact with the puzzles, controls and inputs are all direct rip offs, except they don't include the hint feature. This game majorly falls short of those ones, so if you played those and that's why you're interested in this one, I would recommend passing on it. MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW: The puzzles overall were extremely easy. The only thing that made them even somewhat difficult was the game obfuscating the codes by either adding or removing digits seemingly at random. For example
in the conference room, the podium puzzle itself is extremely easy, first chair is labelled A1, last is D4 and you need to enter a sequence of numbers from this set up of chairs and given equations. You're given the letter A, the digits 1-4, and "*" to enter into the podium. My initial approach to the puzzle was correct, but it took forever to come to the correct solution because for some reason, you're only supposed to use the letter for the first chair, even though you also need chairs A3 & A4, and the other given chair, D4, for the code. Makes more sense to me to either use the letters for all of the seats or leave them out of the code entirely, not guess at which seat needs the letter. In another puzzle you are given equations, but for some reason they've added extra digits to the end that you're just supposed to ignore. There's a "?" in place of the digit/digits you would get from the equation with nothing separating the numbers they've arbitrarily placed in there. For example if the equation was x+y=65?34 you're supposed to ignore "6534." You're not solving x+y=65?43; you're solving x+y = ? with extraneous given digits. A puzzle in Tested on Humans used something similar, but all of the numbers they give you are supposed to be used to solve the puzzle. They're not random digits thrown on.
I guess this is meant to complicate it because it would be too straight forward otherwise, but that just tells me they couldn't think of a good puzzle and decided on being confusing for the sake of confusion. Even if you excuse my issues with the codes, the game is also buggy. Items that you get after solving puzzles just don't show up in your inventory within minutes of picking them up. I don't know if it matters, as you are still able to advance, but it's buggy nonetheless. It also has you jumping all over the place to find items necessary to leave a room. The controls are kind of finicky, and you have to hit the exact right spot for the item to either fall or become clickable. I did this for a long while in every part of the cells to find the needed item, crouching and jumping in every nook and cranny of the cells, even starting the game over a few times and couldn't get the piece to appear. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game and it immediately showed up, so there's probably issues there as well. For the last piece, it wasn't even noticeable that I had jumped in the right spot, as there's no cut scene to indicate that the piece dropped like there had been in every other puzzle. It wouldn't be a huge issue if that room wasn't also full of textures and colors that make it difficult to see the item. As an added bonus, you can get stuck super easily while jumping around, which necessitates closing and reopening the game. Overall I wouldn't recommend spending money on this, and wish I had hours of my life back.

For other game reviews, please follow us at What The Game?
TerraNova: Escape Room is a first-person puzzle solving game with an eye towards emulating an escape room. The game is set in a police station of some kind, beginning with an interrogation room. As various puzzles in each area are solved, they unlock keys to getting into the next area. The puzzles are things like a slide picture puzzle where square pieces are manipulated to complete a picture or finding a combination to enter into a code lock keypad. The puzzles start out reasonably difficult for an average player, and progress to very difficult, very quickly. TerraNova has the standard FPS controls and all of the controls can be remapped to any key, including the keypad. There are graphics and sound options, although for sound the options may have been over engineered. For example, there is music volume and "ambiance" volume. Music volume doesn't do anything, it doesn't matter how it is set, the background music stays the same. Ambiance volume controls the actual loudness of the music. The music itself is a short loop which becomes irritating to listen to. The graphics are fairly well done, and most computers can probably turn up the settings, as the overall environment is not overly complex or detailed. Several languages are supported, but there are no difficulty options, and that is a sore point. TerraNova is pretty cut-throat difficult. The player can easily get to a point where the puzzle to solve is not obvious, let alone gathering clues. Some of the slide puzzles are difficult to solve without numbers associated with the slide pieces. Of course, the player can cut some paper and do this manually, but some sort of difficulty levels and/or hint system is really needed. Most of the time, like an escape room, the player needs to make careful observations of the area to figure out that some things they see are clues, even if they seem trivial There is some semblance of a back story to TerraNova, but it is totally unimportant to the game. TerraNova is an escape room game with a Los Angeles police station theme. Many of the items placed in the game feel authentic, security and interview cameras, lie detector machine, some pictures on the walls, etc. Many items feel out of place, like a Rubik's Cube, doors where a golden coin and Chinese coin are needed to open, a live statue of a bull-man with a battle axe, etc. Although some of the puzzles can be brute forced, some will require making observations that may seem far-fetched, to be charitable. The bottom line is that TerraNova is a well-made, but difficult to solve puzzle game, it's recommended for those with the patience for a no-hint game.
Broken control scheme and inventory items disappearing right after picking them up WITHIN first few minutes and in the first room.
Not worth the price. Too simple and not very long. I spent a very long time wandering around the final section only to find that an inventory item that had been placed to trigger the exit sequence had disappeared from where I had placed it. So I never actually finished the game.
My favorite part of TN:ER is the coordinated effort of a group of people on the discussion board assisting each other to navigate through this mess. In theory, it should not take long to complete. The puzzles are confusing and there is no hint system. Also, it would be nice if the story was fleshed out a bit. Oh, there are bugs-inventory disappears, player gets stuck in certain spots (save often). The game is short and resembles MC2Games in style, though lacking in quality. I wanted to enjoy this, but I am rather glad it's done.
don't waste your money.
I'm liking this game so far. The story is interesting and the puzzles are fun. It reminds me of Palindrome and tested on humans puzzle games so if you like those, you'll like this one. It played smoothly and the puzzles weren't terribly hard- not easy- but not so difficult you're stumped for a long time. I've encountered one bug. I picked up a planet and a coffee cup. Checked my inventory to take a closer look, closed it went back in later and they were gone. Also in the 'classroom' placed the coffee cup, saved exited game but when i loaded my save it was missing same with the coin. Probably won't need them since the items were already used but thought this was important to mention. Just finished the game, I must say I overthought a few puzzles that stumped me. I liked the game, but it needs a hint system. If you're overthinking a puzzle it would help to set you on the correct path. also the jumping at the end was kind of random:/ lol I also want to report the missing items I placed- like the coffee cup I put where it was supposed to go, saved, quit and returned the next day wasn't there anymore, wasn't an issue. Also the planet worked when I got to its puzzle- even though I couldn't see it in my inventory. So they didn't hamper gameplay at all. Play this is you like tough puzzles!
