In the far future, armadas from surrounding systems have suddenly waged war on Earth. You are a pilot from the Ares Squadron, flying the fastest, most dangerous crafts ever made. You're outgunned, outmanned, and strapped into a flying coffin.

This is a fairly easy and relaxing game. It's the first game I ever played when I was little. It's more fun then it looks. You might get hooked. I love it.
Hey, this is a pretty fun little game, I've never played it before but... Oh it's no longer on the Steam store for some reason. Oh well. Anyway, it's a very primitive yet very fun dogfighting ground-attacking arcade flight sim. I like it.
Tags: 6DOF - Flight & Space Pilot Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: Abandonware Grade with several issues but good core gameplay. Gamepad detected P2 as P1 but otherwise worked good out of box. There is not much to hate here. You are a floating camera that moves forward on its own at a somewhat slow speed. You can casually aim around in any direction, shoot down planes. Xbox360 pad detected out of box. Other than the inverted UP/Down axis I found nothing too irritating. You use large horizontal flat lasers to level down buildings and also for dogfighting. The game helpfully provides a DIST meter on the hud which shows your current distance to one of the ground targets available. It is not as precise as a quest marker but is helpful in a manner similar to a hot/cold system. The emphasis should be firstly on succesfully bombing ground installation as air resistance will constantly respawn. However completely ignoring air resistance can leave the screen saturated to a point where even the very underperforming and aim-deficient foes can start causing consitent damage by blanketing areas in laser fire. Striking a balance is not too hard and the game felt casual enough. The game has an afterburner system but it requires some kind of special fuel. Shields can also be regenerated from pickups you get from destroyed ships and buildings which felt a little bit clunky to be honest. The engine itself is a little bit meh. Environments are bare. The transition of planes and buildings between long to medium to close draw distances cause them to change size abruptly. The motion panning around can be a little bit quirkly at times. Everything is understandably horribly undertextured with low polygon models as frames. Was not too thrilled with the audio which recycled quite a bit especially over those long drawn out missions, in an endless loop. Conclusion: Would not go out of my way to recommend but is a decent example of an old retro 6DOF with functional gameplay which does not box you in like descent. It might not be worth holding on to in permanent library but it is kinda neat to hold it in hidden archive.

Granted it came out in the 90's so the graphics aren't exactly stellar, but this is a game I grew up with, in fact it was the first time I learned how to use a joy-stick, back before they were USB. It's very straightforward and easy to play. Offers a decent challenge as you up the difficulty and is a way to test you're "piloting" abilities. Story is kinda bland and very over-done, but still running strong with it's nice background tracks playing while you clear the objectives and shoot-down the opposition. I don't know if this game ever had a strong-presence, but I really hope they try to Re-Vamp it, update the graphics and possibly the tracks so everything is more modern for today's era. It's simple, but it's fun. Would recommend to anyone.
love the game. played as a kid.
Great 3D shooter that has held up very well over the years. Still great fun as always.
Its as mediocre as ever - I rather play Descent -> the 6DoF gold standard!
