How the hell this twin stick shooter has gone so undiscovered here on Steam for more than THREE YEARS at the time I am writing this review blows my mind!! ..This review is only the 2nd review written for this game and only a handful of people have scored a high score in this super fun little indie gem! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvnfYCWMauc IMPORTANT NOTE: YOU NEED A CONTROLLER TO PLAY THIS GAME. MOUSE & KEYBOARD SIMPLY DOESN'T WORK! It's super responsive and big time fun, with that addictive quality to these kinda games that will make you want to play it again and again! I love all the different enemies, kick ass power-ups and the music and sound effects are also top notch! Only ONE little fault keeps me from giving this super fun little indie game my "Zaxtors Indie Gold" award at this time.. As seen in the video above, I had a game where I ended with over 2 million points that should have placed me at the 7th top position, but the game didn't load my high score to the Steam leaderboards and also didn't show it inside the game leaderboards! --------------- Update on Aug 1st, 2022 --------------- UPDATE: Played this game some more and while it does send your scores to Steam, the game is NOT updating the high score list inside the game, even after closing the game and re-entering it. Another gripe I have is that whenever you enter a new wave, the volume sliders you've set seem have NO impact on the "new wave" sound effects and they will blow your ears out, even if you've set the sliders to the lowest possible setting! That's definitely something that can probably be very easily fixed. ------------------------------- Maybe it was a internet glitch with Steam or something as I know sometimes that does happen with these kinda indie games (as I have seen it myself with my own Steam games)... but the developers need to do everything they can to ensure this doesn't happen! ..I highly recommend to the developers that they send the players high score to Steam TWO TIMES about a half a second apart which is a work around I did in my own Best BJ game to resolve this problem. Until I see another patch to address this leaderboard bug, I give this game a "Kick Ass 8 out of 10 score", but if they fix it and release a patch to prevent what I just had happen, then I will give this game a solid 9.5 out of 10 score and make it one of my hidden indie gems in my "Zaxtors Indie Gold" series! All in all, the game is STILL super fun to play and still deserves WAYYY more recognition and support than it's seen it's first three years since in launched way back in May of 2019! HIGH RECOMMEND, and if you love games like Geometry Wars or Super Stardust on the Playstation then this game should be a MUST BUY for you! * Note: I did NOT get this game for free, but rather redeemed it from a indie game website bundle purchase.

Super Space Serpent SE is a 2D retro/minimalist/neon twin-stick shooter (it lacks the nuance of more advanced games like Asteroids from 1980 or SpaceWar! from 1962). If the game worked, you could fly around small arenas shooting line-drawing objects and shake your head at the sorry state of amateur "indie" game developers. The game doesn't work, it hangs at "Loading 0%" and does not progress. It's obvious the developer never tested the game. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard, even if it did work. The game features extremely lazy, minimalist "art", of the type you normally expect to see in low effort Flash/browser games and mobile apps. Considering this is being evaluated as a PC game, having the graphics phoned in like this isn't going to result in a high quality, visually impressive game that PC gamers are used to seeing. PC gamers will be insulted by the presence of console peasant children's toy controller prompts, despite this being on PC. Developers should try to be aware which platform they're developing for. These defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game, but it's broken anyway, so who cares? Super Space Serpent SE has a laughable, eye watering price of $10 USD, for which you could easily get any number of older AAA games, let alone the sheer number of free games available on Steam. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. Selling a broken game for $10 USD is highly unethical and borderline fraudulent... it's a good thing Valve permits gamers to get refunds. If you got this in a bundle, well, you're screwed.
