Hello, my name is zebaxx, I am a 15-year-old Spanish game developer. I had this nightmare in the summer of 2023. I remember it clearly because I always write down my nightmares when I wake up.
In [Stories to Tell] Greyville Stay I had just gotten home one normal afternoon after a long day, when I suddenly realized that some pretty strange things were happening at home...

This was an enjoyable short indie horror. Some cliches in force, but done pretty well. I appreciate the endings and the jump scares. I expected the "detective" to be the killer though not the "poop eater" if that was what he was doing. If ya wanna know what I'm talking about, give the game a GOOO.
This game feels like it prioritizes graphics over everything else, and it really shows. The English is extremely broken, making much of the dialogue dull, awkward, and unpleasant to sit through. Instead of building atmosphere or tension, the game relies heavily on cheap jumpscares, many of which feel forced and lazy rather than genuinely scary. A large portion of the gameplay revolves around repetitive chores instead of meaningful horror mechanics, making the experience feel more like busywork than an actual game. The playable area is very small, yet the characters’ behavior makes no sense within that limited space. For example, an official repeatedly shows up at your door and refuses to leave, which feels unnatural and poorly justified. On top of that, the optimization is terrible. I’m running an RTX 5070 Ti, a very powerful GPU, and it was sitting at 100% usage the entire time. There’s no excuse for performance this bad, especially given the game’s small scope. Overall, the game lacks depth, polish, and engaging gameplay. It often feels like you’re completing chores rather than playing a horror game. I’d rate it a 3/10.

Stories to Tell: Greyville Stay is a compact psychological horror title developed and published by zebaxx that focuses on creating fear through atmosphere, uncertainty, and subtle storytelling rather than relying on constant shocks. As part of the Stories to Tell series, the game draws inspiration from dreams and nightmares experienced by its creator, giving the experience a distinctly personal quality. This foundation allows the game to feel less like a conventional horror project and more like a playable nightmare where ordinary situations slowly unravel into something unsettling and difficult to explain. The game's narrative revolves around a seemingly normal return home that gradually turns into a disturbing experience. What begins as an everyday situation soon becomes increasingly strange as unusual events start occurring around the house. Rather than presenting players with obvious threats from the start, the game carefully builds tension through small changes in the environment and subtle hints that something is wrong. This gradual approach works particularly well because it allows the player's imagination to fill in the gaps, often creating a stronger sense of fear than direct confrontations ever could. One of the most effective elements of Greyville Stay is its use of familiar settings. The house serves as the primary location, and because it resembles an ordinary home, players naturally feel a sense of comfort when they first begin exploring. As the experience progresses, however, that comfort slowly disappears. Rooms that initially seemed harmless begin to feel threatening, and everyday spaces become sources of anxiety. The game understands that psychological horror is often most effective when it corrupts places that should feel safe, and it uses this principle to great effect. Exploration is straightforward but engaging. Players move through the environment searching for clues and attempting to understand the strange events unfolding around them. The gameplay remains simple throughout, avoiding complicated mechanics in favor of immersion and pacing. This minimalist design keeps attention focused on the atmosphere and story. Every interaction feels purposeful, and the absence of unnecessary distractions helps maintain tension from beginning to end. The environmental storytelling deserves particular praise. Rather than relying heavily on dialogue or lengthy explanations, the game allows players to discover information through observation. Changes within the environment often communicate more than words ever could. Small details scattered throughout the house gradually reveal pieces of the narrative while encouraging players to question what is happening around them. This approach creates a sense of mystery that remains compelling throughout the entire experience. Another factor that helps distinguish Greyville Stay from many indie horror titles is its dreamlike structure. Because the game is inspired by actual nightmares, events often unfold in ways that feel unpredictable and slightly irrational. This creates a lingering sense of uncertainty because players cannot always rely on traditional horror logic. The experience frequently feels as though it operates according to the rules of a dream, where familiar locations become distorted and seemingly ordinary situations take on a sinister meaning. This quality contributes significantly to the game's atmosphere. Visually, the game adopts a realistic first-person presentation that enhances immersion. The environments are not enormous, but they contain enough detail to feel believable. Lighting plays a crucial role in shaping the mood, with shadows and darkness used effectively to create suspense. The visuals are not designed to impress through technical complexity but instead focus on supporting the psychological tone of the experience. The result is a world that feels grounded enough for the horror elements to have greater impact. The audio design is arguably one of the strongest aspects of the game. Silence is used just as effectively as sound, creating moments where players become hyperaware of every creak, distant noise, or environmental effect. Rather than overwhelming the player with loud audio cues, the game uses subtle sound design to maintain a constant sense of unease. This restraint helps build anticipation and keeps tension high throughout the experience. Many of the most unsettling moments occur because players are left wondering whether a sound they heard was real or imagined. The pacing is carefully managed and benefits from the game's short runtime. Greyville Stay never lingers too long on any single idea, ensuring that the experience remains focused from beginning to end. The story unfolds quickly enough to maintain momentum while still allowing enough time for tension to build. Its concise nature means that every scene contributes to the overall atmosphere, resulting in a more impactful experience than a longer game filled with unnecessary content. The game's primary limitation is its brevity. Players searching for a lengthy horror adventure with extensive exploration, complex puzzles, or multiple endings may find the experience too short. However, the limited scope also works in its favor. By concentrating on a single narrative and atmosphere, the game avoids dilution and delivers its ideas with clarity. It feels like a complete short story rather than an unfinished concept. Stories to Tell: Greyville Stay succeeds because it understands that effective horror does not require elaborate mechanics or massive production budgets. Through careful pacing, environmental storytelling, strong sound design, and an unsettling dream-inspired narrative, it creates an experience that remains memorable despite its short length. It offers a glimpse into the imagination of its creator while delivering a tense and engaging journey that horror fans can appreciate. While modest in scale, it demonstrates a clear creative vision and serves as a promising entry in the growing Stories to Tell series. Rating: 8/10

Phenomenal and free! Great atmosphere, even though it was a dream I was still complaining about how the character was doing too much. Too nosy for his own good!
