I liked this game when I bought it, but it is no longer that game. They continually break more and more stuff, reformulate how basic game concepts work, and basically it's just not what I liked anymore.
I preordered this game back all the way in 2016 and have put tens of hundreds of hours into this game, BOUGHT every dlc, and played through just about every event mission in the game. I can say without a doubt that the idea to make every ship cost 5 TIMES the cost is absolutely absurd and no one should play the current version. Whoever thought this was a good way to combat late game lag deserves to get fired and fined for destroying a game that lasted a damn near decade. Paradox get your ♥♥♥♥ in order because your devs have never played a single day of any of your games to balance your ♥♥♥♥.
At First, I would have put a recommendation. as you can see I played this game quite a lot and I liked it as I do modding with it. However, Paradox interactive are going the same road as Sims and total war with this one and now we have a list of DLC ranking up at the time of this review at 375 € without sales. I will stay civilized but squeeze a game like this after now 10 years and show no stopping signs to switch to another game is kinda not great for anyone. Just make a new game like a stellaris 2 instead of changing stellaris again and again. Even total war and sims did it. But we all know they wont because they are aware people are playing it, but when modders will be feed up by the constant change of the core code that force them to update all the time, players number will drop. I am sure this will be the main reason they will stop. Ho yeah, let's do points to have a better view on why I can't recommend anymore : - bugs delivered with updates. - DLC cash grab that should be give less frequently and in better quality. This will not happen as they have sub contracted some of the works, you can see it on the quality of the updates and the mechanics becoming very suspiciously less new game mechanics but more game balancing as they have run out of ideas. - game business model and how the game is made is not modding friendly even though mods are the life support of the game (this gonna be very technical and long one) : As I use mods and do mods, you have to updates all mods as the core code is nearly all the time change even with very small DLCs. The game is starting to be very old and modders are doing this in free time, some big mods have teams that have already switch of ownership because they cannot keep up with the game or their life cannot let them do it anymore. Modders are not paid (a few get some money and it very little compared to what they give to us). This is one of my big red flag because instead of reducing releases schedule and making stable code, they change it constantly and spit more DLCs than Lama spit on tourist. I see how modders was keeping was DLC schedule in the past but now some skip some release because they know it will change AGAIN the code and this behavior will increase. True there are modding instructions and manuals given by the devs but you can't expect modders to keep up.Even Warhammer total war, another strategy game with same business model of DLC miniguns have as far as I can see a code that stay the same at the core and make some mods that was uploaded far back still working because they keep it stable. Be aware than when the back of the camel will brake Paradox, you will lose big time. Some very known mods have gone dark already but when the most used ones will go dark too, you can say ciao to your player count. Until then, see ya later Stellaris, it was fun but now you are too bothersome to play.
Stellaris is probably my favourite grand strategy game I've ever played. Paradox unfortunately does what they do best and that's make so much ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ DLC that you'd be able to buy like enough copies of the base game to play with like four or five friends with the same money instead. Genuinely heinous ♥♥♥♥ how much DLC this game has when it came out a decade ago. Worst part is that some of the DLC are mandatory and the other part are so completely unfunctional that they'd basically brick your game. Not to mention, every time they put out a new DLC it also means a new update which means, ♥♥♥♥ you, your save is gone now unless you back patch. Genuinely just steer clear if you can, this game is not worth all the money it'll steal from you.
Fun space game. Lots of ways to customize your empire. Nice Music.
The man they call a racist and genocidal figure is none other than Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, to whom our entire nation is deeply grateful. These slanderous claims and accusations are a direct insult to the Turkish community. If you remain silent and fail to take action against this, do not expect any revenue, player base, or support from Türkiye.
Make sure to read the reviews with the 'most helpful' rating. I spent half an hour going through reviews, and I see many short positive reviews from private accounts which do not reference any specific gameplay. I have no way of knowing if or how many of these are bot accounts. The negative reviews are almost always more fleshed out and reference specific things about the game. Again, I am unsure of whether they use bots to pad the positive reviews. However, I have played Paradox-published games for years and I can tell you that in the last few years, Paradox has evolved into a company that cannot be trusted to have a positive relationship with their customers. So read the 'most helpful' reviews and they will tell you exactly what you need to know about the game.
i dont recommend this game anymore, this game used to be way better than now but paradox finds a way to ruin the game every second update, first like every other pdx game it has to have 30dlc's of wich most are just mods locked behind a paywall, some mods like gigastructural engeniering or dark space add more features/origins or megastructures than most of pdx dlc's, second the performance of this game is absolutly horrible,if you dont turn of any empires and only allow pre ftl civilizations at game start you bascicly cant play this game past the early/mid game, and how is the performance so bad if the ai builds like no fleets and have those horrible managed planets?pdx should make it so that ai planets have a base ammount of resource production so that the game has to do less calculations, but that whould take development time from developing the 20th slop dlc with 3new origins and 5new civics, and the 4.3 update was supossed to "improve" performance by reducing ship counts,in reality it just made the game less realistic and the performance with many ai empires is still terrible, that had the negative side effect of making average to below average players struggeling even more with endgame criseses and fallen/awakened empires, third, they break the game in every third update, for example in the last update they had to change the megastructure building ui for no reason, that broke multiple megastructures in gigastructural engeniering and it also it broke the display of the output of megastructures and they also reworked the automation ui for science and construction ships wich also broke ui overhaul dynamic a mod that should be part of the base game. in conclusion i dont recomend buying the game if you dont have a nasa supercomputer or have too much money, also dont buy the dlc subscription, just pirate the dlc's to test them out and if you like them you can buy them but i whoulnt give this terrible companie that releases early acces games at launch and only makes them good after 15dlc's and or patches, they dont need the money, they have enough and use it for the absolutly wrongs thing.
A really good game plagued with DLC's
