The good: the gameplay. very fun game, building empires, fleet combat, different ways to play each run, all great stuff. Frequent dlc releases. Systems run deep. The bad: very expensive, the company greed is pretty evident, suffers from late game performance issues, new dlcs are usually unpolished or not properly fleshed out. MASSIVE learning curve. If you have the money and a fairly beefy rig, and love grand strategy, i would recommend it. i suggest waiting for a sale, you can often get a bundle of most of the dlcs for a MORE reasonable price, since the full price is kinda crazy. I really hope one day they focus on polishing and fleshing it out.
I really love this game...for a while. I've played this a lot. Things are always going well. I do a good job of balancing resources, workers, fleets, diplomacy, etc. I'm I have resources pouring in like mad. Then, at some point, I can go from mass surpluses of energy credits, to way in the hole in about two years. no matter how much I trade, the energy credits are off the precipice. No matter how much I trade to make up the difference, there is no way to stop the bleeding. I have asked other players and all say it is a problem. After months of playing this different way to try to keep from going over the cliff, I have found no way combination of things to keep this from happening. I came to the conclusion that the only way past this is to cheat and really don't want to do it. Therefore, after 5 months of playing this quite a bit, I am at the point, where I am deleting this off my computer, because this flaw (others call it that, also) has ticked me off so much, I will no longer touch it. Be warned, you also will hit this wall and at some point, you will find that there is no way past it. Until that point it is entertaining. After that, it is maddening!
it only took me 130 hours to finally win a game.
What should I say? 1.2k hours playtime... To me it's the base line now for 4X games (especially space 4x). Yeah, Stellaris got to this point after years and years of development and more dlc's than some TV series have episodes. Nevertheless, what it does it does very well. Try it out with a month of access to all DLCs and then decide how much money you're willing to burn. The base game is decent, but it would break my heart if I had to play a game that lacks certain DLCs. Just as a warning.
