A mess upon release and now a mess with more content. Classic Bethesda
Do not buy this game.
The entire game feels like there were multiple ideas and thought out concepts, and then literally none of them were completed. It's the ultimate "safe" space game. No grime, no grit, no character. Everything feels too clean for a game trying to emulate a messier idea of space. The writing is "baby's first attempt at sci-fi" and it shows in multiple spots. Maybe on sale for 15 bucks, I would recommend it. But nothing higher, other than that, I would try to find another game to scratch the space-faring itch.
Consider this feedback with the followings: I'm a big Fallout fan. Completed this game main mission and one faction mission as well. Several activities as well. Maybe I missed a few things and expected something more similar to other Bethesda games as well. So... this game is sterilized. Like a bad joke, like the wrong future from Demolition Man movie. You can lost in it for hours that's a fact but you will find it a burden at the end, pointless. Clearly the intention for the game at the early days of develop was something pretty different then that we got now. I have to mention that I played a bit with the early days versions as well which was way more complicated(harder?) but clearly it was for exploration and it has it's own identity back then. Now it's just a mix of this and that, not a single new idea is visible in the game, even the stories I have seen them before in classic movies/books already. So not, it's not a good game. I see what they wanted but at the end they retreated from that. Maybe that was the good thing in other people point of view but for me it's make this whole game pointless. The base building and starship building feel pretty lame and unnecessarily complicated. Oh and one more thing to trigger some nice people, I really have no issue with them but this game is so modern that you own nothing and be happy with it while everybody is like from a Colgate commercial with a big LGBT flat. As I said at the start... the game is sterilized...
Not even modders can make this game interesting. The absolute pinnacle of MEH. Absolutely the last Bethesda game I will ever give a chance to. can't believe I put money up for this.
If you are a die hard fan of the Bethesda RPG Experience (why are we like this) this is more or less tolerable and even has some cool bits here and there sort of if you squint, but this is an objectively terrible video game by every metric I can think of. This game feels like everyone involved was abusing Ambien the entire time. On the upside, I'm cured now and I don't care about Bethesda RPGs anymore.
I don't know why I keep buying Bethesda games after fallout 76. It's a normal Bethesda game with neat space ships, lame Bethesda gunplay but better gun mods, 1000 planets and some stuff on like 10. Building and resources are kind of clunky. It's like 4 games in 1 and none of them are all that great. i never played NG+ but the starborn thing isn't all that motivating. Honestly, I've reinstalled this twice and I can go like 5 hours before I just can't care anymore. It was mostly min/maxing spaceships and trying them out this last time.
Scratches the 'new bethesda game' itch but is just lesser quality in so many ways compared to their previous titles. It is just quest and gun slop but still doesn't do that good of a job at that. Did main faction quests and what seemed like big/important side quests before chugging through the main story. Even the main quest was a let down, even compared to FO4. There's like one cool revelation in the entire story, the rest is just boring or unanswered questions.
After giving this game several tries over several updates both vanilla and with extensive modpacks... it is just so damn boring.
