Game softlocked for me in multiple places.
It's Star Wars meets New X-Com and it has so much delicious flavor from both. System reqs are a bit steep but on a god box it runs like a dream and has so many little touches that make me want to keep playing.
Played 10 hrs day1
I thought it might suck, but it's surprisingly good and fun to play.
I like aspects of this game a lot and wish I could put a mixed review. At the moment I'll leave a negative review and will change it once some of the following issues are fixed. GOOD FIRST Really like the characters and protagonist (Really happy getting non-evil Separatists). Writing is quite good for a game like this. Has a lot of great stuff if you are into Star Wars (I am) High production value in the art direction (Only real complaint is the holomap uses fake sector names which were hard to keep track of. Getting a mod to have the actual lore names made the map way better for me) Modding scene looks promising TECHNICAL ISSUES As a technical product, I had many issues and crashing which I have yet to see this much in a game I've played in recent memory. It runs poorly, It crashed often. Turns are not autosaved so you could repeat entire missions the game decides to crash after you beat the mission. I eventually just did those saves manually and had to keep rebooting the game to solve memory leaks and prevent crashing. I feel sorry for those who play this game in Ironman mode. Mechanics feel random when they actually work. Overwatch and Retaliation would *sometimes* work and at other times not which can be infuriating. Unacceptable in a released product. Animations would bug out frequently so I'd have units not move their body but slide across the map. The game can become incredibly slow when for some reason, the game just stops and you have to wait 10s after someone does an action before you can continue playing. BALANCE ISSUES My experience of the game comes from on the highest difficulty. Didn't do Beskar/Ironman because of the technical state. Game needs a big balance patch and overhaul to certain classes. Game is incredibly unbalanced in a way that you don't need to even try to break every mission and turn the game into a cakewalk. Certain characters like the Mandalorian ignore the rules of the game effectively (she needs at least maximum uses of her ADV abilities like EVERY OTHER CLASS), and it is incredibly easy to break the action economy via astromechs. Mass taunt with a tank and running away can effectively render most enemies moot. Enemies cannot keep up or challenge what you do except Droidikas (which do require strategy, I like them a lot and wish they showed up more). There's few enemy variety and you oddly fight more humans than droids in a Clone Wars game. Gets tedious. Fine with Coil and their mechanics though. The game doesn't feel like I need to become a master of the core systems and figure out interesting strats else I'd be overtaken by a superior enemy before you slowly start overtaking them with good planning. You just stumble into being demigods. It makes the game become unexciting fast. DESIGN ISSUES Game lacks a lot of basic features of XCOM like: Enter-able buildings with multiple floors Destructible walls Actually earning new abilities in classes (only the last upgrade of an ability *might* change how you might use the ability) Actual weapon and armour progression More difficulty options like in XCOM 2. (I am fine with an easier game but I hope they add a custom difficulty because the hardest in this game is easy-medium) Permadeath being so hard to actually happen that I ask why it exists. Too many repeat maps Feels very railroaded with its mission timers. Would benefit with an option to extend the timers a bit via gameplay decisions or as a difficulty setting. I am fine with timers but these ones feel like I'm less making my own story alongside a main story but that I can do an actual random mission after doing basically mandatory missions back to back once in a while. What is very much missing is a recup and tired mechanic so you are incentivised to swap out and change units. I am not asking for XCOM 3, but there's a reason why certain mechanics in XCOM exist and would benefit being in this game. At the moment, the game feels 'small' and gets very repetitive. Great as an entry point to the genre and for fans, but boring for anyone with experience. Hope it gets an expansion like EW or WOTC. Will change to a recommend once the game gets its technical issues fixed and at least fixes some of its balancing issues.
这小工作室真何意味了,人物走路六亲不认的步伐,一个战棋游戏配置要求堪比3A,你做的这是什么优化啊你这是
Excellent game. All around Star Wars has been a bumpy ride since Disney took over but this is for sure a big positive for the franchise. Do yourself a favor and buy this game!
A casual X-Com clone wearing a Star Wars skin. --- Mechanically the combat is X-Com light, it's not nearly the absurd random difficulty that X-Com is known for. Tactical positioning sets you up for fairly reliable wins. Global movement and exploration (though limited) takes some hints from Mutant Year Zero, dumping you back into turn based tactical combat after the (rather rare) exploration sections. Between missions has you in a hub home similar to Marvel's Midnight Suns, though not to the same extreme. It doesn't borrow much else from Midnight Suns or Mutant Year Zero, there's no card decks or big open world sections. The core is very much X-Com adjacent with a Star Wars holo table replacing the X-Com style holo globe. The open plan base replacing the static flat base of the X-Com 2 ant farm window. The world overall has the adequately grunge "lived in" feel of a Star Wars criminal element. The story is little more than guide rails. You're not saving the Earth on the scale of either X-Com or Midnight Suns. You're just a mercenary company casually trying to pay your rent and keep the lights on. The threat of death isn't from some grand mystery or world ending event, it's just another droid, another mercenary, another bounty hunter, another every day menace. Graphics are circa 2016 and very much on par with X-com 2. Sounds and music are decent, on par with any EA Star Wars game of the last decade. Voice acting is adequate, and not too cringe inducing. Customization feels lacking, but the default characters are good enough for a play through. Compared to X-Com, Midnight Suns or Mutant Year Zero, this tries to make you feel like you're going to live in the world and this is your life. Though the world you have access to isn't large enough to experience beyond your home base, and your only interactions are with people either trying to hire you or kill you. You wake up each cycle, have a short (optional) conversation with each of your team and then select from a few missions that you'll need to pick and choose from before they expire and gradually pay off your debts. Buying new weapons, finding new team members and just casually being a mercenary in the Star Wars universe. --- It feels weird to me that I'm not excited about this. I am enjoying it, it's a decent game. But it does lack some of the thrill and pressure to move forward. This is Star Wars, but you aren't the hero, you're the background characters. When the hero's in the movie talk about "so and so got us some intel" these are the types of mercenaries you're playing. Go find this map, go collect this weapons cache, go kill this bandit that stole something from the local Hutt cartel, etc. At the end of the day you didn't save the galaxy, and if you failed some other guy would get hired in your place. But if you don't need the challenge that X-Com provides or the excitement of being a superhero, then the tactical layer here can offer a respectable amount of turn based fun. Positioning matters, cover and teamwork matter, special knockbacks and world interactions matter. On a functional level the tactical combat is enjoyable while the world you're in is just the window dressing. So while it's X-Com dressed up as Star Wars it really just wants you to ignore all of that and hop from one tactical combat to another without thinking about it too much and the battles are fun enough to pull that off. --- Bottom line: It's more fun than single player chess. --- While you are here, would you consider following my curator page? Want to read all of my reviews and not just the curated ones?
Ill change my vote when you remove the always on hit overwatch by enemies. Literally shooting me through a building...
