Constant freezes between turns, happens basically every combat mission. PC is completely unresponsive and needs to be power cycled to hard reset. Can't believe this still happens on a 9800x3d, 32gb of ram and a 4090 but go figure. Technical issues aside, I've done multiple missions but haven't seen anything that really improves upon the XCOM formula. In many ways it's been mediocre at best. Really feels like a XCOM clone with Star Wars elements. Wish I could experience more to see if the game improves further on, but as it stands I have needed to repeat missions multiple times from the beginning because of constant freezing issues, since there isn't an automatic mid mission save. It really gets frustrating losing multiple missions of progress after a while.
This is the most boring turn based game i've played. The gameplay is dumbed down as if its meant for kids just learning how to play a turn based game. It draws you in with a "star wars" title and lets you down. The combat has some variety, that is the only improvement in the turn based genre. go get hostages and extract while reinforcements are incoming, thats a good idea, it was fun the first couple of times... and then it became incredibly boring because the gameplay is simplistic. In wasteland 3, each character has their individual "ultimate" that they get on their own by getting successful hits on enemies, its not a shared resource like Zero Company. You can use as many grenades as you have in your inventory, given they all have a specific AP requirement to use them. You can level up your coordination and get more AP per character. You can equip 2 weapons and swap between them for different scenarios or enemies while in combat, you're not limited to 4 total weapons for every character in your party with the only difference being the skin you put on them. There are medical items you can use, you don't need to have a designated "medic" in your party just to heal. Overall, this game is just a money grab, and thats disgusting since everyone was thrilled for a turn based star wars game. It is worth $10-$15, not the $50 we all paid. This was a huge let down. Rating 3/10
This is a highly addicting fun ass game. If you love xcom, you'll love this game and if you are a star wars fan, then you are getting the best of both worlds with this purchase. Highly recommend. Performance wise it runs damn near perfect on my side and I'm at max settings getting over 100 fps but i have a beefy pc so i can only speak from experience.
Yeah, that was just a great game...I had high hopes for this before it came out and it met them! The story was surprisingly engaging and quite a fun star wars story all in all. Can't wait to see what these devs do next because this was awesome!
None of these missions feel unique in any way, its just your 4 dudes vs 30 of theirs, your constantly outnumbered with very little counter play. Overwatch doesn't trigger half the time and I swear high ground advantage also doesn't work as it should. The cover system is largely pointless as you will be surrounded on all sides so it makes no difference. Everyone feels weak with it taking 3-4 turns to kill anything because you do very little damage. And when there's 30 people on the screen at once, most of which will take multiple turns to deal with, it just isn't fun. XCOM did a significantly better job making you feel strong, and weak where needed. For every one thing I like, there's two things I hate.
A fantastic game! I'm not a fan of the faces available at character creation, but that's it's only strike in my opinion. I love the camaraderie, the fantastic voice work, the dialogue. It's just chef's kiss!
Good soldiers follow orders.
It's Star Wars meets New X-Com and it has so much delicious flavor from both. System reqs are a bit steep but on a god box it runs like a dream and has so many little touches that make me want to keep playing.
If you like Xcom its like a worse version of that. Buy it on sale. General points: The story is just bad The voice acting is excellent The game is very poorly optimized. REALLY Awful performance for graphics that look like they came out 10 years ago. I have no idea how they look so mediocre with such high system demands The combat system is half broken. Overwatch specifically may or may not work randomly. Sometimes you will shoot through walls and do impossible things to land hits but very often the overwatch just does not trigger at all ruining strategy. The mission structure system is unremarkable. You will struggle to get into the star wars universe or relate to what you are doing. Its an ok game. Its probably worth 20$. Get it on sale.
