puyo puyo and arkanoid had a child and it was raised by rodney greenblat
A very unique blend of breakout style puzzle gameplay put into a 1v1 shell akin to the likes of tetris attack or puyo puyo. The gameplay is a lot at first but ends up being quite fun, and I'd imagine being very skilled at the game would allow someone a depth of adoration for the game. The game is split into the 2P versus mode, the gameplay and decorating focused treasure mode, and my personal highlight: the story mode. The story follows 4 characters: Softie Meow the ice cream cat, Sandway the business-horse, OAT the plushie ferret, and The Geometry Clown. All of them have hardships in their life, but through interactions with friends, each other, and Sparkles & Gems, they learn to better themselves and to be a more positive force. It's a cute story that doesn't get too serious and is honestly a fun, weird romp! I was very pleasantly surprised by this game, and I think it's a good addition to the 1v1 puzzler lineup with some unique flair to it! Another banger from resnijars like usual :)
Weirdfur version of breakout mixed with tetris vs mode. If the art draws you in, absolutely play this game! The story mode is strange and sweet, sitting at about an hour or two to complete depending on how good you are. The gameplay has a lot of depth, but is still simple enough that you can play without entirely understanding the mechanics. This is peak indie games to me, it encompasses everything i love about small team projects <3
i enjoy colours and sounds
The simplest way to explain Sparkles & Gems is to take the games Breakout, Columns, and Puyo Pop - and then throw them all together into a cotton candy machine. An enchantingly weird offering from resnijars, the core gameplay loop involves hitting cascading gems with a ball and paddle, aiming to hit as many gems that have three or more of the same type grouped together to destroy them. Gems with sparkles cause multiple gems to explode. You play against an opponent trying to make your paddle hit against a gem or block to win, and just like in Puyo Pop, you can get multipliers on your score to cause the blocks on your opponent side to multiply. The gems respawn as though by magic and will take a quick wit to handle them all! There's a Story Mode in which you get to know the characters of the game, from OAT the ferret plushie to Sandway the business horse, and presents a fun tale similar to a fighting game storyline. Treasure Mode is a game mode where you play rounds of Sparkles & Gems against the PC to rack up stocks, battery power, and jam to help improve your future runs, and to gain treasure in the form of special items you can use to decorate your room in Treasure Mode. Naturally there's a two player mode as well. This game is CUTE, and really really fun! Try it out!
A strange and delightful game. It's both heavily surreal yet incredibly down to earth at the same time. The characters and their struggles feel very real, while at the same time being named things such as 'geometry clown' and 'the letter q.' Can't recommend this enough.
When I first saw this game, I wasn't sure what was so special and different about the gameplay. I was very pleasantly surprised that touching the bottom didn't end the game, and I was actually able to make that part of my strategy on the fly. The colorful imagery and backgrounds were a delight and I can see myself sinking more time into Treasure Mode easily. As for the story mode, I'll be honest that it took a moment to grow on me. I've been spoiled by deep, long, story rich games. If you can set that aside, the story mode is refreshingly simple, compassionate, and sweet. A lot of care was put into this game even if there are some typos (and usage of "lol" verbalized seems a little awkward?) and it shows through character relationships, music, and how comforting the environment was. If you want a shallow, simple break out, this isn't it. It puts a great twist on an ancient game and I recommend it for anyone who wants a softie story or who just really likes these breakout games.
played a bit on itch from a bundle and decided to buy it here. zhis is a very underrated game zhat i feel deserves more attention. Geometry Clown terrifies me. Oat is wonderful. It's peak.
This game is a masterpiece. Pick it up and play the story mode. I promise it's like nothing you've ever seen before.
