Brutta copia di Space Invaders
I'm seeing a lot of negative reviews for this game, and I don't get it. If you liked the old DOS games Galactix or Kiloblaster or you will love this top down 2D space shooter. And you can't beat the price.

Very nice game
Space Scumbags is a retro-style arcade shooter developed by AlcoholEnthusiast and published by Back To Basics Gaming that embraces the simplicity and fast-paced chaos of classic space shooters from the arcade era. Built around nonstop action, enemy waves, and score-chasing gameplay, the game captures the spirit of old-school shoot-’em-ups while presenting everything through colorful pixel-art visuals and energetic arcade pacing. Rather than focusing on deep storytelling or complicated progression systems, Space Scumbags commits fully to delivering straightforward space combat where survival and quick reflexes are the only things that matter. The game throws players directly into dangerous space battles filled with hostile ships, projectiles, and large enemy formations that constantly pressure the player from every direction. The objective is simple: survive the overwhelming chaos while destroying as many enemies as possible. This stripped-down design philosophy immediately gives the game a nostalgic arcade feeling where the gameplay loop revolves entirely around movement, reaction speed, and maintaining control during increasingly intense encounters. The lack of unnecessary complexity works in the game’s favor because it allows the action to remain fast and accessible from the very beginning. Combat is built around smooth ship movement and responsive shooting mechanics that make the gameplay feel satisfying despite its simplicity. Players weave through enemy fire while unleashing constant attacks against incoming threats, creating the classic arcade rhythm that fans of retro shooters expect. The further players progress, the more chaotic the battles become as enemy patterns grow more aggressive and the screen fills with projectiles and explosions. The escalating difficulty helps maintain tension throughout each run and creates a rewarding sense of progression as players gradually improve their reflexes and survival skills. One of the game’s more entertaining features is its boss encounters. Large enemy ships and powerful mechanical opponents appear regularly to challenge players with more dangerous attack patterns and longer battles. These moments help break up the regular wave-based structure and add excitement to the pacing. Bosses demand more careful movement and concentration than standard enemies, making victories feel rewarding even though the mechanics themselves remain fairly simple. While the encounters are not especially elaborate compared to modern bullet-hell shooters, they still provide memorable highlights throughout the experience. Visually, the game embraces a colorful retro pixel-art aesthetic inspired by older science-fiction arcade shooters. Enemy ships, explosions, and environments are designed with exaggerated arcade-style visuals that prioritize clarity and energy over realism. The screen is often filled with projectiles, bright effects, and constant movement, creating an atmosphere that feels chaotic and lively throughout every battle. While the graphics are relatively simple, they fit the arcade structure perfectly and successfully recreate the feel of classic shoot-’em-ups from earlier gaming generations. The soundtrack contributes heavily to the overall pacing and energy of the game. Electronic music tracks play during combat, reinforcing the fast movement and nonstop action happening on screen. The music keeps momentum high during difficult encounters, while explosions and weapon sounds constantly add intensity to the battles. The audio design may not be highly sophisticated, but it effectively supports the game’s arcade identity and helps maintain immersion during long sessions. What makes Space Scumbags interesting is how unapologetically focused it remains on old-school arcade gameplay. Many modern indie shooters attempt to layer RPG systems, extensive upgrades, or cinematic storytelling onto the genre, but Space Scumbags instead keeps everything centered around immediate action and replayability. This simplicity gives the game a very clear identity. Players always understand exactly what the experience is trying to deliver: fast arcade shooting built around reflexes and survival. However, the game’s minimalist structure also creates some limitations. The gameplay loop can become repetitive during extended sessions because the mechanics and objectives remain largely unchanged throughout the experience. Enemy variety is somewhat limited, and the lack of deeper progression systems may reduce long-term engagement for players looking for more customization or strategic depth. While the retro presentation has charm, some players may also find the visuals too basic compared to more modern indie shooters that push the genre further technically. Despite these shortcomings, Space Scumbags succeeds because it captures the addictive quality of classic arcade shooters remarkably well. The quick pacing, simple controls, and endless waves of enemies create the familiar “one more run” feeling that defines many successful arcade games. It understands that satisfying movement and responsive gameplay are more important than unnecessary complexity, and that design philosophy allows the experience to remain entertaining even when the mechanics are relatively straightforward. For players who enjoy retro-inspired shoot-’em-ups and classic arcade gameplay, Space Scumbags offers a fun and energetic space combat experience filled with explosions, chaotic battles, and nostalgic presentation. It may not reinvent the genre or provide massive gameplay depth, but its fast-paced action and arcade-style simplicity make it easy to enjoy in short bursts or extended multiplayer sessions. Beneath its simple structure lies a genuinely entertaining shooter that respects the spirit of classic arcade gaming while still delivering enough challenge and replayability to keep fans engaged.
