This had the potential to be a fantastic update to the 90s classic SkiFree, but unfortunately it's ruined by a myriad of bugs. Out of five attempts (“runs”), three of them were plagued by a game menu that would not close, forcing me to play with it permanently superimposed on the screen. In another run, I skied into a massive crevasse (cool to see such landscape features implemented) I couldn’t escape from and had to alt+tab out and force-close the application (not cool to see such landscape features were, in fact, game-halting glitches). The fifth run started off well and even transitioned into a cool “night” section, but I eventually got stuck in some trees (i think? its pitch black and thus impossible to tell) with no way to get out. This could've been an awesome portion of the game but, again, it was executed terribly. What’s especially frustrating is that getting trapped in ditches or trees doesn’t trigger a game over or reset as one would expect — instead they leave the player stuck in such a way that their only recourse is to hard-reset the game. That said, when everything works as intended, the game feels fun and genuinely addictive. With better polish and bug fixes, this could have been an excellent mobile game or a wonderful nostalgic PC revival. As it stands, I’m left disappointed and still hoping for a properly executed modern take on SkiFree. Sadly, this is not even worth the current price tag of nothing as it steals what little precious time we, as humans, have on this ball of dirt.
