My first game from the SMT mainline games. It was fun and I enjoyed the gameplay far more than the Persona™ games. The combat was electric and I was genuinely struggling in the end and it was a blast. The demon designs are super cool and this is their best look imo. This game has the worst story I have ever played, it is so boring and lifeless. If they had just cut all dialogue out of the game and it would have been more enjoyable. It is so boring I would get up to leave mid cutscene because this main cast interacting with each other makes me want to glue sandpaper under my eyelids. Atlus has done good silent protags in the past but this one is not good. The side characters are terrible, the only one I had any sort of interest in was Yoko and she disappears midgame. Im going to turn Ricardo V into a smoking pair of shoes. The story is so so so bad but the gameplay is probably my favorite turn based game ive ever played. Hopefully this was just a one off and the rest of the series is awesome. -Sent from my HeehooDeck™
I don't love it but there are a lot to like about this game. The music, especially the ones from battles are insanely good. If you've played SMTIV and liked that industrial esque sound and aggresive synths, they're here as well. Demons and characters are finally in 3D with unique animations and in my opinion, this is one of the most impressive part of the game as an evolution from previous entries. Demon interactions are as good as ever, snappy, charmful, witty. Demon fusion received some polishes that combined with "Miracles" you can learn making it easier to craft the specific demon build that you wish. I don't like how cumbersome it is to switch between menus on the shop and world of shadows, though. They could have made it switch-through with say, shoulder buttons like R1 and L1 but instead I have to go back and forth between sub-menus. I don't like the Demon Haunt feature, as well. I like the concept but the execution felt like the dev just want the feature to be there so you can get items from demon allies and them level up from unclear "chemistry", it's boring, sorry. I don't like how the open world aspect was done in this, mainly because how lifeless the world feels after the novelty wears off. I much prefer how SMTIII did it as a world map because it's simpler and faster. I don't like the characters and I feel like the game failed to make me care about them. Look, SMT is combat focused and all, I know, but frankly there's no reason for me to go about all this adventure. SMTIII had me go into a hospital with friends to look for our teacher and then the world got flipped inside out. Why the comparison? Because the game is explicitly a succesion + homage to Nocturne. Not my fault for finding inferiorities and calling them out. Definitely felt like a game that went through a dose of development hell to me (as if the concept of the Vengeance edition hasn't made it clear enough). I hope SMTVI steals from IV or Strange Journey if ATLUS is hell bent on not creating entirely new plots and worlds. Or just anything that doesn't have a 10+ hours of sand dunes on the opening act. Also, multiplatform re-release should come with better texture resolutions. The ones on uniforms and rocks are just embarassing for a full priced re-release. Do better. Tried both CoC and CoV route, unfinished both as you can see my hours played. Will come back later after a break. If you find similarities on aspects you don't like in a game from my review, I don't recommend this game. ATLUS catalog is quite massive so play something else instead. This is not ATLUS at their best.
Honestly, I'm not the target audience. I haven't played a game like this in 20 years so perhaps I expected more in that time. Regardless, I give all games an honest go and really tried to like it but there's a lot I dislike and I'm not really the type to glaze a game just because its popular online.

Things I Like:
++ Demonic Pokemon: Turn-based combat with creature collecting. Pretty much what I wanted it for as I haven't played a Pokemon game in 20 years and demons are neat. ++ Some of the demon designs: Some of them look really cool and come from myths and legends from the whole world, not just Japanese. I liked reading some of their brief lore bios and I was able to recognise a few by name alone. + Some of the music is good: I appreciate some of the tunes, specifically the Battle tracks, like 'Qadistu'.
Things I Dislike:
--- Illusion of Choice: Replaying some story sections, I've come to find that most dialogue choices dont actually matter. One section I was given the choice between 'Can you explain that?' and 'What do you mean?' and the character responds the exact same way. Like why even give me a choice? This is a waste of time! -- Low Quality: Sure there's a ton of poke-demons, most you can completely skip over and not all of them are given the same treatment in their level of design as others. Boring fetch quests, poor writing, poorly directed cutscenes that come out awkward, graphics are just ok, fps drops in one of the menus with high end hardware, no VO for creature dialogue and a lot more linear gameplay than I expected. Compared to games of the same year and year past, I can see why this falls super low on the radar of people who aren't tapped into the genre. Also, they're charging £54.99 for this? And there's a paid time saver DLC? Jesus christ. -- Can't customise the main character appearance: I hate how he looks. I'd prefer to play as a demon. -- Creature collecting isn't really satisfying: I enjoy the odd quiz now and then, but ultimately, this is kind of a boring and often trivial way to recruit something as interesting as a demonic entity, especially when sometimes they just take some cash and thats it. The fact there's essentially a ladder you can climb by fusing demons skips this whole process for cash too. Getting new characters never feels earned. -- Fantasy JRPG non-sense: They love to be quirky when naming stuff dont they? It's not 'go the hub, open the shop and manage creatures' it's 'enter the Leyline Crossing, spend Macca at the Cadaver's Hollow and enter the World of Shadows to perform Dyad Fusion'. I still get confused as to what Macca is because even in the shop they dont call it that lol Instead of talking like a drugged homeless person, can we be functional and just say what things are? Surely no one is pining for mumbo-gumbo glupp ♥♥♥♥♥♥ names for things as basic as 'money'. -- Kinda braindead easy: Can kinda just walk past the mobs as they don't really hold anything of value. Whole game is kinda A vs B. I never really find myself wondering which demon to take, it's always just the strongest ones I have available, especially since they can inherit the same skills and some stats from past demons. The hardest part during my playtime was accidentally walking into something a much higher level than me and having no way out but death, but you can kinda save whenever you want to and ignore those parts. In fact, you could just save before every encounter, dive in to see what their weaknesses/moveset is, then go back to the save and exploit it, which I did a few times. - Can't load/save during a battle: So if you know you're gonna lose, you either ALT-F4 or just sit there, skipping turns until your HP is 0 and the cutscene plays. - Can't remap controller buttons: But at least it recognised my PS5 controller and I didn't have to mod in Playstation prompts this game.
Best thing ever

I love it. You wont regret picking this game up if you like creature capturing and turn based combat. I had to stop playing though because my controller stopped working, and I refuse to play certain games with a mouse and keyboard
i love god and boobs
This is NOT the kind of game I would normally play. However, what sold me was Dunkey playing it live and as soon as I saw, A, how interesting the open-world mechanics were, and B, how flexible the RPG mechanics were given the demon (party member) fusion system, I started watching for a sale. Getting it 50% off, I've gotten more than my money's worth. This is a really, really good game. I will say though, I don't know how any adult with time constraints could play this without the little cheating orbs from the DLC (they give you extra money and level up currency). I guess if you love a slog and/or losing to bosses over and over, then avoid them, but otherwise... the game has these huge difficulty spikes where everything is going well and then a boss will just WIPE you, so I really appreciated being able to dip into this "cheating" currency whenever that happened instead of having to grind random mobs for hours. Back to the postives though... The graphics are good, the demons are incredibly varied and I really love how each of them has lore on the cultural signifcance of them (since these "demons" are basically gods, fairies and so on from around the world. Really interesting idea, I know it's a staple of the series but I'm new to it), and the variety and control you have is truly impressive. Basically imagine any normal RPG where you have party members, except your party members are like pokemon you can catch in the overworld, except your pokemon's "moves" can be swapped out with basically any other pokemon AND you can use one-use items to change their stats (not always but often) so you could, for example, get a demon who is strong with ice and dark, and then make them way stronger in dark, and then give them more dark moves... But also the game has fusion! So every new demon you collect can theoretically create a whole new demon, especially when you have extra money to summon previous ones you've owned just to use as fusion materials. I really, really enjoyed this part of the game more than anything else. The story is... to be honest, the overarching story is actually QUITE interesting, but the beginning trappings of "blah blah high school boy becomes hero" is very tired. I get it though, and it's not in your way for long. There's one too many "forced school day" parts for my taste but you relatively quickly gain the freedom to warp between your world and the actual game world whenever you like and it was only up from there. There's also apparently two whole games in this game? I would recommend looking up the details of the starting choice since you're basically choosing which game to play which is kind of crazy, one day I might go back and play the original story... The character models are absurd. There's a looooot of fan service (although, why censor nude characters? They're clearly nude... regardless...), but also just a tonne of truly fascinating designs, unique interpretations of mythological staples, etc. I'm really impressed with that part of the game. Also the animations during battle are awesome, especially the Almighty moves. This is also probably the best "open world" experience I've ever had with an RPG. The character movement is solid and aside from some bs "what, I can't jump here? I can't climb that little ledge?" moments, it was truly satisfying to explore almost all of the maps, and whenever I got a new area I was so excited to roam around collecting things, getting new demons, etc. Why is my guy so feminine though? Strange that you're locked into playing as a really feminine looking male character in the demon world... but it's fine if you just sort of ignore it I guess. Basically, I thought this was going to be 6/10 for me, and it's more like 9/10. I would heavily recommend it if you like games like this, and heavily reccomend it on sale if you've ever enjoyed a game like Final Fantasy, Pokemon or even a deck-builder since this is kind of all of that in one with a dope open world and a story that gets really deep once you leave high school behind.
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is one of my favorite ATLUS JRPGs that I've played so far. Coming from the three mainline Persona games, I was initially intimidated going into this game, on the Hard difficulty no less because I'm always up for a challenge, because of the Nocturne clips I'd always see on YouTube and word of mouth from friends that SMT is a notoriously difficult series. After 160 hours poured into this game, 3 playthroughs and all superbosses defeated, I can confidently state that a majority of these claims are untrue. The game hands you numerous tools to handle each and every situation that you will ever face in this game. A lot of the things I hear about SMT's difficulty typically stems from lack of preparation, misunderstanding of the boss mechanics, and overall a poor performance. Another thing to note is the grind in this game. From my experience in the first playthrough, there was never a moment where I had to mindlessly grind for any longer than 10 minutes, aside from negotiating with demons to save Macca for fusion early on. The game's progression feels smooth and even clearing things while severely underleveled is a possible task assuming you are aware of the boss' shenanigans first. The combat is also very in-depth, and you are able to do as many wild and wacky builds as you can, and still defeat anything that stands before you. I don't need to mention this, but come on, it's an ATLUS game, of course the music will be top notch. As a game as a whole, SMTV:V is an above average JRPG as a game, but it has several weak points to it that hindered my experience. Namely, the poor storyline and lack of character depth. The story fails to make me feel attached enough to care about what happens near the end, and a majority of the main cast aren't even present! This is only true for Canon of Creation, however. Vengeance does improve on this much more and I was hyped to always look forward to what the story had to offer next. Another downside to mention are the two dungeons of this game. This is a nitpick, but by God those dungeons really sucked in both storylines. The Demon King's Castle was way easier compared to Shakan. Regardless, the conclusion is that this game is an amazing timepour and I dread the day where I've completed the game entirely, getting every ending, completing the compendium, getting every achievements, etc. However, that'll be quite a while away. I'm happy to continue playing as is, and I'm hopeful that I can get the same experience I had here in Shin Megami Tensei VI, too. Thank you Shin Megami Tensei: Vengeance, for never taking advantage of my innate gullibility.

Demon tasarımları her zamanki müthiş. Tek tek inceleyesiniz geliyor.

Her demonun kendine has kişiliği ve diyalogları
Kaliteli hikaye ve felsefi anlatım
Harika müzikler
Çok detaylı ve tatmin edici savaş sistemi
Derin demon fusion sistemi
Türkçe desteği

Eksiler

Klasik Japon RPG yapısı herkese hitap etmeyebilir
Yer yer ciddi grind gerektiriyor
Bazı boss savaşlarının zorluğu fazla gelebiliyor
Hikayeyi önemsemeyen oyuncuları bi noktadan sonra sıkabilir

PUAN: 80 / 100

Kapanış
Felsefi hikayesi, unutulmaz demon tasarımları, müzikleri ve derin savaş sistemiyle türün kaliteli örneklerinden biri. Grind yapısı ve yüksek zorluğu nedeniyle herkese hitap etmese de JRPG sevenlerin kesinlikle deneyimlemesi gereken yapımlardan. İyi oyunlar!
