This is a very sloppy Playstation ported JRPG (Why is it always the Japanese Playstation ports that are the worst in existence?) in a popular (in Japan, not anywhere else) franchise, "True Goddess Reincarnation" which is about an effeminate schoolboy who carries a handbag (yet somehow doesn't get bullied relentlessly) who turns into an angel and battles a bunch of demons that ravage Tokyo. Okay, I guess that's pretty normal for a Japanese anime plot. Visually the game is pretty poor, cartoony graphics and NPCs so lazily done they don't even have eyes. Detail is at least added to the (well over 100) demon enemy types you have to fight. That sounds like a lot, right? That's because this is an insane grindfest where you just do endless battle after battle... all of them very shallow, of course, JRPGs seldom, if ever have the same kind of depth as western RPGs (take a look at BG3 for examples of that). It's all just number pumping with JRPGs and this is no exception. On the upside, the game does feature customisable controls and resolution, so at least some of the basic, minimum requirements have been met. Unfortunately there's a number of other technical defects and shortcomings which contribute to the game being difficult to recommend to gamers. Because this is designed for consoles, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the inferior console gaming appliances that the game was designed for. These are unfortunate compromises and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was a second thought for the console-centric developers. The game is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for consoles forces upon a game. Once more, console peasants have made gaming worse for everyone. The graphics in this game are passable, but could be better. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time and money, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. Those technical flaws drag this game well below the minimum quality standards expected of a modern PC game. Let's look at the price and what kind of value this actually offers gamers. Should you buy this game? Is it one of the best of the 140,000+ games on Steam? Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance has the total ripoff price of $59.99, for which you could easily get any number of recent AAA PC games.... or you could buy this lazy PS port. The quality problems and defects with this game makes the asking price totally unrealistic. It's impossible to recommend this to gamers here on Steam. Only to be considered by people who bought a PC thinking it was a Playstation, or something.
atlus could puke and i would drink it
Средненький клон персоны, но попытка хорошая
I don't really enjoy the battle system that much, and it is very much the focus here. Although there are some interesting elements, the story and characters aren't compelling enough to make me care. For reference, I am playing the Vengeance story since it's supposedly better.
It's kind of difficult to take "destroying the world so it can be remade" as a desirable option unless you don't care about said world at all. The game makes it far too easy to remain entirely detached.
The demon designs are excellent, but I'd already seen most of them in the Persona games (which I enjoyed much more). Collecting and fusing demons felt like deja vu. Exploring wasteland areas and enjoying the great soundtrack can only keep my attention for so long. There's not enough variety in the vibes this long rpg puts out. I'm struggling to finish. It's not a bad game, but it's not for me.
First time ever playing an actual Shin Megami Tensei game that isn't Persona and while it took me a moment to get used to with how different it plays compared to Persona I had fun with it, since I played Metaphor which has a similar battle system it made it easier to know how the turn icons worked. While I don't think the story was good at all I really like how you get to see how the Demons interact with each other and in the world, some Demons I never really cared or knew much about before became some of my favorites due to their substories or how they interact in battle. Can't wait to play the other SMT games. Dear Devs please make Jack Frost's breast bigger next game
Buy SMT V: Vengeance instead of Persona 5
I loooove the Persona series and this at first glance looked similar so I decided to grab it. Sadly enough ... this isn't Persona. It's not even as good as Metaphor. Nor is it actually that great on its own. Let me get specific: - Persona &Metaphor had varied surroundings, lots of people to talk to, a strong story, comedy & drama mixed - Shin Megami has none of this - it's far more combat focussed with constantly respawning monsters, boring characters, a meh story and while combat works decently well, there's too much of it & it gets incredibly grindy I can't recommend this game if you expect more than combat after identical combat. There's a decent amount of depth sure but there just isn't enough to keep you playing. I never get the urge to keep playing to find out what happens next - that's why the mediocre story is such a shame. I'm honestly surprised this gets so many positive reviews.
Jugador de Persona promedio juega Shin Megami Tensei por 1ra vez. zarpado :))
El mejor JRPG moderno de la historia.
