Shadow Warrior (Classic)

This is an old 3D FPS game using the same engine as Duke Nukem 3D but with an oriental theme. Hack and blast you way through mazelike levels, collect the key, flip the switch and move on to the next level. The game includes an "experimental" port of the game to the Source engine, which makes it playable, but they should have finished the port, instead, they left it incomplete and dumped it on Steam. This game is really old and dated. The Source port is playable but the classic game, well, you can't play an FPS with keyboard only in this day and age. The game is superseded by a remaster released by Devolver that is superior but costs the same. The game has also been rebooted to contemporary PC standards, so this is completely obsolete, yet 3D Realms, in yet another show of outstanding nostalgia gouging amoral greed, is demanding $14.50 for this abandonware. 3D Realms and their greed make this impossible to recommend.

Fan de doom-likes, je connais Shadow Warrior depuis sa sortie (mon père y jouait et je le regardais faire), et comme pour Blood ce jeu utilise le Build Engine de Duke 3D. Il est puissant ce jeu, très difficile mais tellement bon. Le thème asiatique, Lo Wang plus que charismatique, les ennemis qui n'ont pas peur et les lapins qui... ^^ . Ce jeu je le recommande à tout ceux qui veulent du bourrin.

This game comes with 2 modes or ports. The dos port has odd controls that can't be changed. The source port had this weird crunchy sound every time Wang talked. I played this game muted for a bit to get a sense. Games like this were pretty neat when they first came out, but playing them in 2022 they certainly don't age well. After playing modern shooters you really realize just how far the genre has come. Play this for historical value, but don't expect to enjoy yourself.

Shadow Warrior is a great game being on par with other games of the time such as Duke Nukem 3D and Blood as one of the greatest FPS games of all time. 1.Story In Shadow Warrior you play as Lo Wang an employee of the Zilla Coroporation, Zilla Rules most of Japan and decides to take over the world as he thought Japan wasn't enough, Lo Wang Doesn't agree with this and quits the job at Zilla Coroporation and sets out to destory Zilla and his army of ninjas. 2.Gameplay Shadow Warrior Plays alot like Duke Nukem 3D as it is running on the same engine,the game has two episodes "Enter The Wang" and "Code Of Honor," The first episode has 4 levels and the second has 18 levels. Lo Wang is one of the most halarious portagonists in all of video games here are a few of his quotes "Row Row Row your boat gently down the stream why is my Dingy hanging out" and "Who Wants Some Wang" the game has an original weapon selection when compared to games like Doom and Quake, Lo Wang has his fists,A katana,Shurukens,Riot Shotgun,UZI SMGs,Rocket Launcher,Grenade Launcher,Railgun,Sticky Bombs,Guardian Head and a Ripper Heart.As far as I know, this and blood are the first FPS games to have ALT fire modes to weapons examples are the Riot Shotgun can shoot out 3 shots at the same time and The Rocket Launcher can Shoot Heat Seeking Missles and Nukes. 3.Presentation Shadow Warrior looks very and I put very outdated for it's time in terms of Graphics, This game was released in 1997 by this time Quake was out for one year and it had true 3D Graphics not to mention 1997 was the year Quake 2 was Released so by this time the Build Engine was becoming outdated that is one of my major complaints with the Presentation, It's outdated and that can sum up the Presentation of the game. 4.Final Verdict Shadow Warrior despite its presentation is a great game and there are so many ways to get it now. This particular version was included in the 3D Realms Anthology Steam Edition, You can also get it free on steam or you can purchase it on GOG.com and get its two expansions with it, Twin Dragon and Wanton Destruction you can purchase the remake Shadow Warrior Classic Redux (Which I also Reviewed) or if you are just old school you can pick up the boxed version but man I love this game so what's the final verdict? 9/10 It would be a bit higher if the presentation wasn't outdated.
