Set Sail is a western visual novel set in the modern day where the Golden Age of Pirating never properly ended. You get to meet characters interested in the world of piracy and choose how your days on the main land go.

Is actually just a 2 hours VN?
Amicalement, Le pasteur .

"Set Sail" isn't a game. It's an e-book dumped on Steam masquerading as a game. As a visual novel/e-book/fan-fiction, this has no notable gameplay. It's just clicking through badly written dialogue that would never be accepted in print by an actual professional publisher. How did something this badly written end up on Steam? When someone can't get published in print, they spend $100 and dump their high school fan-fiction onto Steam Direct under the guise of a game. Not only is this not a game, it's not even a "full" e-book, just a demo chapter, and the developer indicates in the store blurb that he intends to write more of this garbage high school anime club dropout fan-fiction at some point in the future... but, some relief to gamers here, it looks like he didn't follow through with this threat. The book itself, of course, is garbage, a high school anime club dropout fan-fiction about the author and a variety of imaginary girlfriends that he has (you don't know them, they go to a different school, in Canada). It's set in an unimaginative and creatively flawed "what-if" scenario where piracy never stopped, which doesn't make sense because the golden age of piracy ended because colonial powers in the Americas became powerful enough to police the seas effectively... the only way this could work is if America wasn't colonized fully. Doesn't make sense. This was slapped together with the godawful Ren'Py visual novel construction kit... enabling terrible authors to publish books as if they were games when otherwise we might have been spared the pollution. So, just like no professional writing took place here, no professional software development took place, either. Visual novels are tedious at best. Imagine the best novel you ever read, be that Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy or Twilight (kidding), but translate it to a format where you've to click your mouse for every single sentence instead of just turning pages. You'd think it was garbage. Now take that annoying clicking and add utterly cringey high-school anime club dropout writing to it. Real authors are published in print and found in Barnes & Noble. This garbage only ended up on Steam because they paid $100 to self-publish, because let's face it, professional publishers would not only reject this garbage they saw it, they'd take out restraining orders. There's no reason for this to be on Steam when it could just be a webpage... e-books are just a bunch of cringe text and (usually character generator created) static 2D imagery. You don't buy an expensive gaming PC to use it for something your web browser can do for free. A peak of 2 concurrent readers for a free visual novel/e-book is a disaster. Out of 130 million potential gamers, almost nobody was interested. That level of rejection speaks for how badly written this is. To put this into perspective, to satisfy the global demand for this book, you'd only ever need to print 2 copies. That's what failure looks like. While this garbage cringe e-book has no up-front cost, you can find genuinely professionally written novels and comics at a public library or through websites like Project Gutenberg. Your PC isn't a Kindle, and I can't recommend non-game e-book visual novels to people looking for PC games.
