Gameplay Honestly great, I really liked the turn based combat, and the timed hits/blocks system makes it so battles have some agency beyond just picking the right moves at the right time, but that is the extent to where it goes, if you expect something like the Mario and Luigi series where you can actually dodge this isnt it, but it is solid enough for me to recommend it to you if you look for a experience close to it. Music The music is good, with some standout pieces close to exceptional, there is no song in this game that I would describe as bad, and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it alongside playing the game and the OST matched the Vibes closely Visuals Really beautiful, thats literally how I feel, as someone born in the 2000's I wasn't around when Pixel Art was widespread, but I still have some fond Childhood memories of playing tloz: The Minish Cap on my gameboy and this game just kinda brings me back to those times, the visuals are incredible and the Devs use some post processing to enhance and make the art shine even more.
!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!

!SOME SLIGHT SPOILERS AHEAD I GUESS!

!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!
Story Oh dear god what did they do/j
But anything has something it doesnt do well, and with Sea of stars its unfortunately the story. I don't wanna be all doom and gloom but I will still be honest, its... servicable and that exactly is the problem. Its not bad but it also sadly isnt exactly good either. Characters, and even moreso the two Solstice Warriors, just feel incredibly one dimensional. Of course its not all bad, and there were moments that did get an emotional response out of me but oh my god were there also some frustrating moments.

Yet despite everything, there are characters I thoroughly enjoyed, Garl is my boy for example. Hes just great and I love him. Moraine also was great because HE ACTUALLY ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ DEVELOPS AS A CHARACTER! Reshan is cool and then he just ♥♥♥♥♥ off and we never see him again which is sad.

Disclaimer
Dear reader, you have now entered the Brugaves and Erlina section. Anger doesnt begin to describe what I feel about these two... lets get into it.
Erlina: She just kinda never shows emotion, which we are led to believe was because her fellow Solstice Warriors got murdered, but then she just kinda goes full on megalomaniac, which is fair I suppose since now I think she got traumatized and is just insane. ♥♥♥♥ guys do I actually like her now... oh god.

Brugaves: So anyway this character serves zero ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ purpose, he doesnt even do the survivors guilt part well because moraine is RIGHT THERE! To add onto what i was saying he just stops being a character mid game because he just ♥♥♥♥♥ off after being like "lol lmao bye i will forget all now" and if we were gonna do that anyway he could like idk, as hinted at sometimes (he goes back and forth between feeling bad about betraying us and being like "I must do this") actually betray erlina and die in the process or something, that would make me actually say "Yknow what, he kinda didnt do much but he had some aura when going out.

♥♥♥♥ YOU BRUGAVESIMORE
So anyway because of the sheer amount of content the game has I can recommend it, Just dont go in expecting a masterclass in storytelling, the rest is actually pretty great.
My gambling addict friend said if I post a review on Sea of Stars: Sunset Edition and it gets 350 likes and 150 Awards that he will buy me a case of beer, some vodka, and bottle of wine.. So I'm just gonna leave this here..
the beginning is so boring it has no choice but to get better... let's not find out
beautiful but incredibly boring and shallow
É surreal o carinho que os devs tiveram ao fazer esse jogo, cada detalhe e cada ação foi pensada no jogador, fora as semelhanças e easter eggs com o jogo The Messenger. A gente se sente tão querido.
Awfuly designed maps, colors overlap together way too often. I got stuck in the wind mine after the old fart took the elevator. There literally is no indication that you can jump in the hole left after the elevator goes up. I had to watch a video of someone playing and they jumped there by accident! If the map design is so bad early on in the game, I cant even image how much of a pain in the ass later stages get. The fighting mechanics are bad, and I feel like im tickling the enemies. Interrupting enemy skills is one of the worst mechanic in the game. Maybe someday I`ll have the inspiration to pick the game back up, but today is not the day. There is nothing about the story that makes me want to ignore everything I dislike about the game. I thought its gonna be similar to Expedition 33 but I was dissapointed. The conversations between the characters feel hollow and way too short. The music is just some background noise that is not memorable, The movement around the map in some portions is way too slow and tedious. The characters having 2 skills maximum is dissapointing, fighting enemies feels bad and I would preferably skip them. The game even on 50% off is not worth it.
For reference, I've likely finished "Act 1" and in the beginning of "Act 2". Unfortunately I am losing interest in continuing my playthrough. Visually, Sea of Stars is absolutely the best looking pixel-art style game I've ever seen. The game boasts beautiful sprite work and animations. The visual effects are stunning and really enhance the environment and combat. Enemy visual design is superb - from bosses to the fodder. This is undoubtedly the game's biggest strength. In my opinion the other components of this game fall very short of the high-bar that the visuals set. The 2 major areas I found lacking are the writing and the combat design which are critical in JRPG-style games. The main characters are devoid of any personality and, up to this point, do not see any character development. There are no interesting conversations or interactions between characters. You will probably hate
Garl
, who is given a lot of dialogue. The combat is similar to Mario RPGs like Super Star Saga and Thousand Year Door. Sea of Stars puts their own spin on it, and it seems refreshing and novel at first. But I found myself using exactly the same strategies for every fight - including bosses. Character stat distribution felt meaningless as I was forced into the same choices every combat encounter. If you are looking for a JRPG-lite or casual couch co-op experience, you might enjoy Sea of Stars though!
