About
The first of seven chapters of a courtroom battle style visual novel, in which the story follows brand new lawyer Samuel Prince as he solves a strange variety of different crimes. Acquire evidence by investigating the crime scene, then use it in court when cross examining witnesses to cleave through all the lies and find your way to the truth. Use your head to point out contradictions between the testimony and the facts in order to get your client declared innocent and deliver justice to those who really deserve it. In this chapter, Samuel Prince makes his grand debut in the courtroom, defending a young college girl accused of killing her best friend.

Having finished the first chapter after coming here from a promising recommendation on the Ace Attorney subreddit. I must say I greatly enjoyed. As a huge fan of the Ace Attorney franchise itself, this game did a wonderful job of imitating the courtroom style of gameplay. The trial segment was well thought out and the testimonies were clear and made sense, with the plot flowing well- which when writing an intricate and detailed murder plot and making sure the culprit isn't caught too easily, is very impressive and definitely worthy of praise. The OST was solid and I have no complaints regarding that, while the VA (for the objections, etc.) were fine. My main criticism is of the "OBJECTION" of the protagonist himself which could've been a bit more energetic, as I found myself to rather like Victoire's "objection" and "Enough!" which I found fit him very well. The artstyle/character design is an interesting point. In my opinion I think it's quite cute and I personally liked the designs of all, but notably Maxine & Victoire. Plus it doesn't take away from the story very much at all, which for me makes it almost a non-issue, the only point in which I have issue is in the "breakdown" of the culprit which I understand is difficult to do (especially to imitate the Ace Attorney breakdowns which are known for being incredibly over the top) I wish was slightly more fleshed out, besides that it fit the character. Other minor gripes are the occasional errors in the script (such as misspellings or slight mistakes: i.e a character being called a "her" when they're really a "him" or adding in words that don't belong) which to be honest don't ruin the experience, and considering the vast amount of text there is, it's not surprising for there to be a few issues, it's still present nonetheless and worth noting. I'm quite invested in the plotline so far and have just picked up the 2nd and 3rd chapters, so I'm hoping it continues to improve, as far as first cases go, this one was actually very impressive (yes, I'm comparing to Ace Attorney) and since it's free to check out it's 100% worth trying if you're a fan of puzzles, mysteries and games like Ace Attorney.

"Samuel Prince Attorney at Law Chapter 1" isn't a game. It looks like an e-book dumped on Steam masquerading as a game, but it's not that either! This is an advert! This is just the "try before you buy" intro to some cringe fan-fiction, and the "author" expects you to pay money for the rest... imagine paying money for someone's high school anime club dropout fan-fiction. Ugh. This is never okay. There is no gameplay here because this is just an advert for a garbage high school anime club dropout fan-fiction e-book. It's full of cringey dialogue and amateur writing that would be rejected by any actual book publisher... leaving the "author" of this garbage to shove it onto Steam Direct. Here is the link to the actual demo publishing process that this author ignored to exploit the Steam store: https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/store/application/demos Samuel Prince Attorney at Law, the book series this is advertising, is only available as a couple of extra chapters you have to buy for a whopping $5 each... yeah, don't laugh, the author thinks each chapter of this badly written, cringey dribble is worth $5. Is it possible for delusions of grandeur to be a clinically severe condition? The plot of the series, and of this short advertisement chapter for it, is the lamest ripoff of Ace Attorney ever inflicted on the concept of literature. Visual novels/e-books are the worst way to try read a book (and they're always written far worse than real books too). Imagine reading your favorite book, be that War and Peace or The Davinci Code (are you ok??), but you have to click the mouse for every single sentence that appears. You'd hate it. It's a garbage way to try read a book... and even if it wasn't, this still isn't a game. Now imagine that experience with much worse writing. If these guys could write professionally, they'd be in bookstores. They wouldn't have to pay Valve $100 to self-publish this on Steam. But here we are. E-books are technically simple, and don't require any of the heavy features that actual cutting edge PC games need... in fact, the whole thing can be done in a web browser. There's no justification for charging money on Steam for what might as well be a webpage. We don't buy gaming rigs to spend money on something Chrome or Firefox could do. Even as a free e-book, this couldn't find an audience, not just because this is Steam, for PC games, not garbage e-books. With a peak of only 2 concurrent readers, it's clear nobody wanted this. They literally couldn't pay people to read it. Even more comical, to satisfy the global demand for this book, you'd only ever need to print 2 copies. And that's probably too many. Advertisements aren't games. This advert for a cringey amateur fan-fiction is just a commercial trying to get your money. It takes up store space that should go to genuine game developers who make real, complete PC games for gamers. You shouldn't support authors who use Steam to dump ads for their badly written fan-fictions.
Mahkeme savaşları tarzındaki yedi bölümden oluşan görsel romanın ilki olan bu kitapta, yepyeni avukat Samuel Prince'in tuhaf suçları çözme yolculuğu anlatılıyor. Suç mahallini araştırıp delil arayın ve ardından bu delilleri kullanarak davanın ardındaki gerçeği mahkemede ortaya çıkarın.
I liked it. some parts are little slow with clicking. the art style is simple but has some charm and the whole thing was nicely thought out. i liked catching on to small details that were useful later
Holy peak. Maxine is such a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hottie. We, as in you (the reader) and I ARE cracking Max. The game as cool and all but god I want to FJ from her. 10/10
Let me start by saying what I think this game does well: 1. A good story: Does the story seem obvious and based highly on tropes from ace attorney games? Maybe. Is each characters personality highly based on ace attorney characters? Yes. But this game takes on Ace attorney and the story genuinely feels like another case from the game if you hone in really hard on the story. It just feels like one of those first cases where they serve as introductions, which this game does amazingly. 2. Interesting character designs These characters don't look bland, they don't feel like something forgettable. Each character has a unique charm about them with some bold design choices. For instance, the judge has an unforgettable design, even if she does look a little like a cockroach. Also, Samuel himself has a kind of lion looking aspect to him which makes him memorable. Every character is noticeable in the way they look, and the design choices are bold yet easy to look at. 3. The idea of adding a logic idea at the end, based on the ace attorney investigation games. Yes, this was actually a really good part of the game, but my huge problem with it is that it addresses the PAINFULLY obvious plot hole like a sort of revelation and moment of god-like intellect. If you were paying attention to the testimony directly before that, it would be apparent that what was gone over in the logic game is right in front of you. I will cast those opinions aside to say this idea was really fresh and revitalizing, and the background for this itself looked really good. The logical progression and breakdown is steadier than in some of the other actual ace attorney games. Now, what this game does poorly. 1. Bad graphics This is the statement most people would agree with. The art style is, in my opinion, drawn like someone under the age of 16. The proportions aren't right, most people don't have shadows, and the background sprites look like something out of Newgrounds. Peoples eyes will just not exist during some sprites? (especially that one where the prosecutor is laughing, and the confession of the culprit.) Some models look completely flat because they have no shadows on them (like the second frame when Samuel is falling.) Very poor flashback screens where it looks like a yellow screen and black ink blots on it. Also, one picture was literally drawn in a notebook and not fully colored in. Overall, the artist, which I'm assuming is the developer, needs to work on the art style. 2. Lack of tone throughout the game. The characters in this game lack their certain power or expected trait that makes them that character, as most float above the constraints of a digestible personality, with character development being rapid and jarring, at times. The prosecutor suddenly crying like a baby after acting serious and smug for the whole game. The judge, who is supposed to be a fair and honest girl, just admits shes an idiot. Samuel being a really smart guy but apparently relying on poor sarcasm for most of his internal dialogue and conversation. The game keeps getting interrupted by unnecessary humor that doesn't have the charm of the ace attorney games. I will admit, some moments did land for me, but others just made the game hard to go through. 3. Voice acting. The voice lines were recorded by a child in their room late at night. When you say objection, you don't state it softly, you either state it loudly or scream it. This is what they do in the Ace attorney games to build up drama and suspense and make the case seem more dramatic. A low level "objection" won't cut it for a sense of drama in a highly dramatic game. 4. The reason button. This was the most frustrating thing for me: A reason button, where the answer in a puzzle game is handed to you on a silver platter. It's frustrating because you, as a puzzle game creator, have not expanded the minds of people who have played your game. You only have given them a crutch to rely on. This mechanism only works in the ace attorney investigations games where choices are not binary, but based on actually moving around a crime scene and investigating things. There's a reason the ace attorney games do not have a reason button. And that's really it. Overall, for a free game; the story is interesting enough. Everything else needs refinement. I would get it, especially since it is free.
r/aceattorney sent me. this is actually surprisingly good. despite the (admittedly quite charming) art, i got surprisingly invested. one criticism i have is the one part at the end where the text goes really slow. i think it's excessive, but apart from that, i recommend it. seriously it's good
I apologize for this review but spamming the "Space" key to skip a large part of the story is not something I appreciate even if it is well done and interesting! Honestly, the whole time I was hitting the "Space" key, it felt more like a novel!
