Just when I thought we hit rock bottom with Crimson Memories, ParadiseProject releases another of their absolutely awful otome games, Sacrament. I don't think I've ever experienced a translation this bad in my entire life; I'm fairly certain that Google Translate would have done a better job than the localization team who scammed ParadiseProject out of their "hard earned" cash... God, trying to say that with a straight face was difficult. Whatever the case, I forced my way through a single character route of this torture-in-written-form so I could warn you of the horrors within. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1392315715 Unlike the previous two games from the illustrious developer, MagicHouse, Sacrament completely forgoes the RPGMaker format and is a straight visual novel. And while I was excited at the prospect of not having to watch the little sprites wander around the screen wasting my precious time, it wasn't five minutes into the story that I was already begging for them back. At least then I might have actually had some direction as to what the hell was happening in the story, because the writing is so bad that I had absolutely no idea what was going on at most times. The narration is mostly a jumbled mess of seemingly unrelated ideas that stumble from one to another, and the dialogue isn't much better. What's worse, the HORRIBLE UI puts the character's name in a teeny little bubble at the top of the text box, so half the time you're not even sure who's talking because it's not easily distinquishable as you're reading. As for the story, I think it has something to do with an orphan girl named Ella, who's village and family were killed by a demon several years prior. She's lonely and spends her days going to church to pray while the rest of the townsfolk ostracize her because she was the only survivor of the tragedy. One day, out of the blue, she stumbles upon an injured demon hunter, who she takes in and attempts to nurse back to health. The demon who attacked him follows her home and lingers around waiting for Mr. Demon Hunter to wake up so he can kill him (because he doesn't like killing people who can't fight back, or something). Through one contrivance or another, she ends up with one of three guys, and they have hot sex. The end. You know, at least Les Fleursword and Crimson Memories had stories that were silly enough for me to be at least a little curious as to where they'd go. This is just your generic Angels vs. Demons tale which pretty much serves as nothing more than a backdrop for really badly written hentai. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1392315854 And if you thought ParadiseProject actually cared about the garbage they keep shoveling out, the CGs don't actually show up in-game unless you copy and run the game outside of the install directory (that's why I have no play time showing despite having read through 2 hours of it). And no, the CG gallery isn't actually bugged. It's just that ParadiseProject decided to copy/paste over all the hentai shots so they could get release approval here on Steam. Downloading the +18 patch restores these images, which is about half of the CGs in the game. But EVEN if you felt compelled to play through just for these scenes, believe me, the pain isn't worth it. It doesn't even have Steam achievements to make it stink any less. This is a waste of time, money, and sanity. Just don't do it. This third otome visual novel with romance, fantasy and fan service by MagicHouse and SakuraGame features an orphan girl Ayla Thurloe who lost both of her parents and everyone else around her from a massive fire which burnt everything in Frau Village. Miraculously, she was the only survivor of the village fire and was picked up by a priest Father Raphael Geli. Raphael brought Ayla to a neighbouring town where Raphael's church is located and Ayla currently lives alone in a house owned by her grandparents. One day, while going to pick up medical supplies for Raphael and the town's physician Doctor Marcob from another neighbouring town, Ayla lost her way and ended up walking into a battle between a demon hunter Crusader Noine and The King of Demon Iruret Coronam. After losing consciousness, she awoke to find herself back in her house with Noine recovering from his injuries in one room in her house while Iruret often forces himself into Ayla's house as an uninvited guest, tempting Ayla to give him her soul. Ayla could decide to go out to buy supplies, focus on looking after Noine or to seek Raphael for advice which would lead to a romance route with Iruret, Noine or Raphael. Having played MagicHouse's earlier visual novels Les Fleursword and Crimson Memories, this game is now a visual novel with no RPGMaker-based scenes and text that can be skipped and fast-forwarded. The background music in this game are the best among the three titles with the title BGM as my favourite. Artwork in game cover, promo video, CGs and character sprites are great. Hope this game will also qualify for Steam trading cards in future. There are also more choices in each route, plot and ending variety in this game. Among the cons, this game still has many errors in the English version(The Load option in the game's GUI is spelt mistakenly as Lord instead. xD) with no Chinese version or better translation this time. The CG gallery in-game doesn't have a Back to Title screen option anywhere and have to be guessed by pressing the RMB. The theme song with vocals in promo video is now censored and requires downloading and installing uncensor patch to listen to. Also, the game now doesn't have Steam achievements, all of which may reduce the appeal of this visual novel. Reading through the storyline and dialogue will take less than 10 hours. Recommended when at discount or bundle offer for fans of MagicHouse or SakuraGame who might be interested in collecting the titles by SakuraGame as a short visual novel with great artwork and BGM, like or doesn't mind a game with adult NSFW content and doesn't mind reading through a visual novel with many errors in the current English version.
There are reasons why this is only $1.99 - Glitchy The CG gallery does not work properly. If you click gallery while playing the game you get a review of the text so far. I copied the file to the desktop and was still unable to see the CGs properly, although somehow they were 100% unlocked it only shows 4/5 pages and most are duplications. Some of the thumbnails also don't match the actual image that is shown if you click on it. While playing the game, occasionally a repeat image will show that doesn't match what is going on in the dialogue, at all. Not sure if this is a glitch or just a horrible transition, sometimes you get these obnoxious horizontal lines that pop over your screen and then right back off it. - Terrible Translation Yes, yes the dialogue is in broken English, and other reviewers have pointed that out already. That's not that hard to get past, even though it is irritating at times. However, some of the controls on the pause menu are only half translated. - Lack of actual choices I only played through one path, and I made 3 whole choices in the whole game, which were all more or less the same choice... stay or go... then it was over. Kind of disappointing even for a cheap game. Hopefully at some point they decide to patch/fix this game, because as it is, IMO, the game is really not worth playing.
I noped away after I read about the LI moving his "four limps". And I really thought I could make it. English isn't even my first language so I was about sure I won't even notice that something is wrong with the translation. Poor dumb me.
