RISK: Global Domination

Anti Fun Loved playing this 10 years ago w/ friends and reinstalled it during a road trip for some casual fun. What I found was instead a mess of anti consumer and anti fun practices that just left us annoyed and over it. Once, you could open this app and hop into a game within seconds. Now, you are forced to go through a tutorial and must use tokens to play matches, a clear push towards spending money on the app. While it may have been fun at one point, everything on the backend of this app is just a slog to get through. Use your time on something else

Can’t Get Past The Frozen Ads Great game, but sometimes the ads freeze and don’t let you move onto the Risk game. I try closing the app and then am forced to watch yet another ad. I’ve watched three ads in a row and the Risk game won’t open.

Cheesy This game would be so much fun if it weren’t for the AI that literally chooses who it wants to win. Bots will refuse to attack some players while vehemently going after others. It will actually block off vulnerable areas with its troops, if it doesn’t want you to attack that person. They’ll reply to these complaints saying there’s an algorithm, etc. but they fail to mention that algorithms adapt to your actions. Just like a YT or FB algorithm. The game reads you, decides how it expects the match to turn out, then does everything short of belligerent cheating to make it happen. Whether you’re the one chosen to win or the one chosen to lose, it just takes all the fun out of the game.
