This is actually very well written, the art is a little stiff, but competent, and the background art is well done, with none of the corner cutting or stock photography you usually get in visual novels. The game lets you make choices, & the choices matter a great deal. The characters have actual depth and complexity to their personalities. Writing is the most important aspect of a visual novel, and 'Rising Angels: Reborn' really excels in that department. The popmetal that plays on the main menu is cringe, & there is some slightly iffy grammar, which is all too common in VN's. Does nobody proof read these things? But apart from that this is a very solid VN. This is the second best free VN I have played, and unlike DokiDoki, there is no risk to your mental health. This is really good for a freebee, and better than most of the VN's I have paid for. the art is very good, but I think it could be even better. Some advice to the artist on how to make their art look a little less stiff: Use pressure sensitivity on the line art, so that the thickness varies a bit. I know this can make doing the fills harder, but I think you will get the hang of it. You might want to make the line art just a little thicker. Seems like it's about one pixel. consider adding another pixel or two so that the line thickness can be allowed to vary. Also don't use black lines. Use coloured lines that are a darker version of the colour they are adjacent to. I know this takes longer but it's worth it, & I think the art would look a lot less stiff. I think the art is very good, and it's just the thin black lines holding it back most of the time. This is a grossly underrated VN, and it's tragic this this is given away for free, & still doesn't get the attention it deserves.
This was one of those games I installed as a "why not" but heck it might actually be one of my favorites. I'm disappointed that the follow up chapters aren't available on Steam! It's absolutely worth the read!
If you enjoy games with intrigue and a LOT of reading, this game is for you. I found myself saving at certain points to see alternate choices.
The characters aren't very well written and are, indeed, much more like a bunch of tropes with no real synergy. Like Sol gets told to stop being racist or he'll be court martialed but he literally doesn't even tone it down in front of the person who threatened him. Like??????????????? Why give a character morals if they have zero ethics? Why make a character racist if I don't get to beat the ♥♥♥♥ out of him for it?
Though I rate this as Ok,, I would not class it as a part of Hope. It does not really link save Kika is just as mad and Sol is still a racist bigot... And Faye ? Not the Faye Of Hope. I would rewrite this to Match the endings of Hope.. Though this VN is not bad,, it, to me,, Is separate from Hope, as though it ever happen save Sol blames "The Mutt" for his break up..
Two short, barly rember playing it.
good game
For a free game it was quite enjoyable and well done.
