If any of you have played The Last Dream, think of this as a more bite-sized version of that, something that you can jump into more easily and not feel daunted by a stupid number of hours ahead of you. This is a zoning out and having fun kinda game. You load it up and just get into the zone, trying to optimize your way through encounters and not die horribly along the way. It's not the best JRPG-style game on Steam like this, there are ones with better stories or characters or plots going on, but if you're just trying to grapple with some satisfying Turn-based classic JRPG combat, you can do a hell of a lot worse. There's also a kickstarter running for the sequel right now, as-of Late July 2019, which is how I found the game, so if you try it and like it, that's an option for y'all.
Considering I backed this game when there was a kickstarter, the time in which this game was given to the public was extremely impressive and quick. That being said, I know some users have not let them backing this project not effect their reviews but, in my case, I will let it do so considering one major factor; Time. Considering this game was put together in such a short amount of time, it plays incredibly well. The combat system truly feels like every class can be tied together if you wanted it to be. 17 classes lets you easily create your style and enables tons of different ways of playing the game as well, giving it pretty good replayability unlike most games nowadays. I'm still very young into the game, so this review may seem optimistic but I truly believe this game is COMPLETELY worth the 3 dollars and then some. In all honesty, if the creator took this game, evolved the map and lore to something nicer and more pristine while keeping all the mechanics the exact same, I could see something beautiful being made from this project. Totally recommend.
Old school feel for sure. Choose your own 4 player party, no swapping, choose wisely. I don't know why at this point everytime I enter in any town, when I leave I end up at North Port... Seriously... Enter Giman, leave, I am outside North Port, enter Hope, leave, outside North Port...Real PITA... Although Speedwalk helps... Worth every bit of $3 so far.
This game was honestly so good. It took a bit and a few restarts to really understand the game and to get a team that wasn't garbage, but I thought it was great the whole time through. Also, so much content for like the $1 that I paid for it.
Amazing! Better than most JRPGs on Steam.
I am really enjoying this game. Started off as a Chanter, Monk, Sage, and Cleric and really took the time to methodically choose this party combination based off of the description of the classes alone. This game does a good job at explaining this. I enjoy the passive abilities and other 'shard' abilities that are discovered throughout the game that the leader of the party can have access to. The party customization in this game is nuts. Having put in 2 hours now, I've faced some nice bosses/mini-bosses and really appreciate the battle system. Thankfully my party has great synergy, though I could see that if you choose a certain setup that you may have a hard time with some of the bosses. The art can be improved as far as monsters go, but if you can get past that, you will thoroughly enjoy progressing through the game with the party customization (I repeat this because this is literally my favorite part of the game). The fact that we have control of where the stats go is also impressive to me. Storyline thus far is great - neat concept. Looking forward to editing my review as I proceed through the game. For the price of 3$, this experience can't be beat.
I found "Reverie - A Heroes Fate" on Kickstarter, and thought I'd try the first game since it was very cheap. Overall I really liked the game. Here are my personal pros and cons: Pros: - Totally worth its price! Took me between 10 and 15 hours to finish one playthrough (I'm a chill player though, a lot of people will probably finish this a bit faster). - The map of the game is pretty big, there are quite a few places to explore. - Lots of classes to choose from, giving the game a bit of replayability and also strategy elements. - Some nice side quests (I would have enjoyed a quest tab in the menu though). - Equipments have very varied abilities i.e. it's not just + N points in Def when you get a new armor. Again requires a bit of strategy to put together a well esquipped team. Cons: - Not much of a story, the characters of the party having no personality, but the number of classes available in the game make up for that in a way. - Easy to get lost in where to go next, mostly when you choose the airship from the beginning. I think it would have been easier with a story to follow. Conclusion: totally backing the next game on Kickstarter :)
I love the amount of class options as well as being able to assign stats and shards. Really allows you to customize your party and encourage additional playthroughs. The sound track exceeded my expectations. Lots of bangers and always fits the area. There is a lot to do in the game and it doesn't hold your hand. This is mostly a positive, but I did struggle quit a bit with where to go next, often stumbling into an area I had no hope of surviving. The only negative is that a little more direction would be appreciated, but given the style of the game it is acceptable. (and the relic choice as it is basically air ship or warrior gets sweep and rolls the game) Graphics and intentional, but I do appreciate the variety of enemy types.
I love the 8-bits style RPG and old-school fashioned! I don't know why some of the reviews are bad but this game is very awesome! I don't know who is the music compositor but he's a genious! The soundtrack is amazing and I'll never get bored of hearing the main battle theme, soooo SAO style <3 2 Hours in it so far and I can't stop playing! It's grindy but that's how I love my games!
Extremely fun game with a variety of classes and skills so you can enjoy multiple runs. Dark knight and wizard are incredible though. Dialogue is serious but sprinkled with enough humour to keep you interested. Definitely worth the buy.
