Good game to play when you can't afford to play real pool
I have been playing POOLIANS for almost six years, and I would like to propose some suggestions as follow: Suggestion #1 – Preventing One-Turn Knockouts in Tournaments Currently, tournament matches are played as a single-game knockout: the winner advances to the next round. I do not necessarily think that playing only one game is a problem by itself. The problem occurs when one player wins the entire game immediately after the break. For example, after the break, a player may legally pot all of their balls and then the 8-ball in the same turn, without giving the opponent a single opportunity to play. In this situation, the losing player is eliminated from the tournament without ever actually getting a chance to play. Although this may be completely legitimate according to the current rules, I do not think it provides a particularly fair or satisfying tournament experience. A player's entire tournament can effectively end because their opponent had a perfect run from the break. My suggestion: If a player wins the game directly from the break with a single uninterrupted run, the match should automatically change to a "best-of-three format". In other words, the first player to win two games would advance to the next tournament round. This would preserve the current fast-paced single-game format in normal circumstances, while providing the other player with a genuine opportunity to compete when the first game was decided without them ever getting a turn. I believe this would make tournaments feel fairer and more competitive, without significantly increasing the duration of most tournament matches. As a long-time POOLIANS player, I think this would be a relatively simple change that could significantly improve the tournament experience. Suggestion #2 – Better Tournament Balance and More Team Tournament Variety I would like to suggest a change to the balance and variety of tournaments throughout the 24-hour period. At the moment, the daily tournament schedule is not very well balanced between the different game types. Currently, 15-ball and 8-ball tournaments are held four times per day each, while 3-ball and 9-ball tournaments are held only twice per day. Since POOLIANS already offers team tournaments in the 15-ball format, I believe it would be interesting to expand the team format to 8-ball and 9-ball tournaments as well. My suggestion would be to replace two of the current 15-ball tournaments and two of the current 8-ball tournaments with team-based tournaments. Additionally, I would suggest that the 3-ball tournaments be played in single-player format rather than team format. The daily schedule would then become: -2 × 8-ball single tournaments -2 × 8-ball team tournaments -2 × 3-ball single tournaments -2 × 9-ball single tournaments -2 × 9-ball team tournaments -2 × 15-ball team tournaments This would still result in exactly 12 tournaments per day, with one tournament taking place every two hours, so the overall number and frequency of tournaments would remain unchanged. More importantly, this would create an equal balance between the two tournament formats: - 6 × single tournaments - 6 × team tournaments The main benefit would be greater variety and a better balance between the different tournament formats. Players who enjoy team-based competition would have more opportunities to participate, while players who prefer individual tournaments would still have regular single-player tournaments available. I also believe expanding team tournaments beyond 15-ball could add an even stronger social and community aspect to POOLIANS. Playing together with friends, forming teams, and competing against other teams could create additional reasons for players to stay active and return to the game regularly. This would not require increasing the total number of daily tournaments. It would simply provide a more balanced mix of game types, an equal 6/6 split between single and team tournaments, and a greater variety of team tournament formats. Suggestion #3 – Giving Coins More Purpose I would like to suggest giving Coins a more meaningful role in POOLIANS. Players can currently collect Coins in several ways: by playing regular tournaments, playing Coin Games, winning matches in the Coin Arena, participating in the monthly Bonus Pool tournament, and, more recently, by purchasing Coins. However, there are currently relatively few ways for players to actually spend their Coins. They can be used in the Coin Arena, where players can lose Coins when they lose a match, and in the monthly Best Pool tournament. Because of this, I believe that many players may have lost some of their motivation to collect Coins. If there are only limited opportunities to use them, accumulating large amounts of Coins does not provide much additional value or purpose. My suggestion would be to introduce Coins as an entry fee for tournaments. For example, players could be required to pay a certain number of Coins to enter a tournament. The entry fee could be different depending on the tournament format, with different entry fees for single-player tournaments and team tournaments. This could create a much more meaningful in-game economy for Coins: - Players would have an additional reason to earn and save Coins. - Coins would have a clear and regular purpose beyond the Coin Arena. - Tournament participation could become another way to use accumulated Coins. - Different entry fees could be established for single and team tournaments. - Players would have more strategic choices about when and where to spend their Coins. I believe this could also increase the overall engagement with tournaments, because players would have a clear goal for the Coins they earn through regular gameplay. The important point is that this would not necessarily require introducing more ways to earn Coins. Instead, it would give the existing Coin system a much stronger purpose and a more active role in the overall POOLIANS economy. Suggestion #4 – Separate Team TM Rankings POOLIANS already has various ranking lists on the website, but most of them are focused on individual players. If more team tournaments are introduced, as suggested in Suggestion #2, I believe it would also make sense to introduce a separate Team Ranking system. The basic idea would be to create a clear separation between Single TM Points and Team TM Points. How it could work: - TM points earned in single-player tournaments would continue to count toward the player's existing Single TM Ranking. - TM points earned in team tournaments would be recorded separately as Team TM Points. - Team TM Points would not be added to a player's Single TM Points. - Team TM Points would therefore have no effect on the player's position in the Single TM Ranking. - For the Team Ranking, the Team TM Points earned by the two members of a team would be added together. For example: - Player A: 12,500 Team TM Points - Player B: 9,800 Team TM Points - Team total: 22,300 Team TM Points The team would then appear in a dedicated Team Ranking based on this combined total. Another important point is that one player should be allowed to participate in more than one team. For example, Player A could have: - Team A with Player B - Team B with Player C - Team C with Player D Each team would have its own Team TM Points and its own position in the Team Ranking. This means that a player's Team TM Points would be associated with the specific team/partnership in which they were earned, rather than simply being one personal score that is automatically transferred between different teams. This would allow players to play with different partners while still giving every partnership its own competitive identity and ranking. I believe this system would create a much clearer distinction between individual competition and team competition. Players would still be able to compete for their individual Single TM Ranking,
