this MIGHT be undertale
For such a simple idea and gameplay, ProtectHeart is WILDLY ADDICTING. I could not stop playing this for quite some time, and I even have quite a bit of AFK time due to RL stuff. It's just so good! Graphics, sounds, etc are all pretty basic and not really anything for you to write home about, but the game itself has some weird kind of magnetism to it and you will not stop playing it. Seriously. You might need some help to actually turn this game off! -- Now I do say that last part with some truth, because when you get to a certain point (1000+), there is no way you are dying so the only way you can tear yourself away from the heart is to ALT-F4... such a tragic feeling... Get this game if you want to get lost in something so simple, so "easy", but riddled with RNG and some challenge.

Very skeletal game, not much meat to it. It was a challenge up until you get a few waves past the jets, which is the "end" basically. After that, you're only really playing for the achievements, which require you to defeat "x" amount of enemies, survive "x" amount of waves, and one mystery achievement I haven't figure out how to get yet. Upgrades are pretty vague and lackluster. "Bullets" adds a bullet each upgrade, which is alright, but could be further improved in late game to add effects to the bullets, like curving bullets, reverse bullets that shoot backwards, or even piercing bullets. "Spread" I assume is only really useful to get later in the game when you have a bunch of bullets to make them fan out more. It's alright, good for groups of enemies, but not very good early game. "Damage" does what you think, increases damage dealt to enemies, but the upgrade does not specify by how much it increases damage. I also think it has a cap, because very late game, like hundreds of waves in, I still couldn't "one shot" the jets, but they are killable, which means the damage upgrade is useless after a certain point. "Fire rate" reduces the time between shots. It's solid, very useful at any point. Kinda hard to mess up a classic. "Speed" is another vague upgrade. I'm pretty sure it increases bullet speed, but it doesn't have much noticeable effect. Gameplay wise, it was nice up until the "end." Spent an hour chasing the last achievement, but never got there. Kinda random with the enemies, turtles and balloons? Weird, but a fun play. I will be following along to see how it progresses, because it has a solid foundation, just needs some work.
Easy Achievements Game Ever!
"Protect Heart" on Steam is an absolute gem of a game, and I can't help but sing its praises from the rooftops. From the moment I launched the game, I was mesmerized by its stunning visuals, which are both vibrant and enchanting. The art style is a perfect blend of whimsy and detail, creating a world that you can't help but get lost in. The soundtrack complements the visuals flawlessly, with each note elevating the experience to new heights. It's the kind of music that sticks with you long after you've stopped playing. Gameplay-wise, "Protect Heart" strikes a perfect balance between challenge and enjoyment. The controls are intuitive, making it easy for players of all skill levels to jump right in. However, don't let the ease of control fool you—the game presents a variety of puzzles and challenges that require creativity and strategic thinking to overcome. Each level is thoughtfully designed, providing a satisfying sense of progression and accomplishment as you advance. The story is another standout aspect of "Protect Heart." It's heartfelt, engaging, and beautifully told, with characters that are both relatable and endearing. The narrative depth adds a rich layer to the game, making each victory feel all the more significant and every setback a reason to try harder. It's a story that resonates on a personal level, encouraging players to reflect on their own experiences and connections. Moreover, the developers of "Protect Heart" have done an outstanding job of creating a supportive and welcoming community. The forums are a great place to share tips, strategies, and experiences, and the developers are actively engaged, listening to player feedback and continually improving the game. This level of dedication is rare and speaks volumes about the love and care that went into making this game. In conclusion, "Protect Heart" is not just a game; it's an experience. It's a testament to what indie games can achieve, blending stunning visuals, captivating gameplay, and a compelling story into one delightful package. Whether you're a seasoned gamer or new to the world of video games, "Protect Heart" offers something special that is not to be missed. It's an absolute must-play, deserving of every accolade and a shining example of the artistry in game development. AFTER THE NEW UPDATE - This has gotten even better and I love the how hard it is now, it makes me so exited when I get to around level 750
While extremely bare-bones at the time of review, with more choices on level-up and the addition of more enemies/difficulty this game could be a masterpiece. There's not a lot to see right now, but the dev could ABSOLUTELY turn this into something really special. Definitely check it out.
This is a very poetic game that illustrates the difficulties of modern dating quite well
Bare Bones, and Fire rate is so important because early on you only get 1 to 3 shots per spawn till they get to your tower, and you usually will miss the first one due to "not knowing where they'll come from" Its not bad, but not worth your time.
neat lil project, needs way better balancing though. upgrades aren't linear and have clear breakpoints that completely effect how the game plays, and the lack of options per level and shallow nature of the game currently means its ridiculously rng based. If you aren't rolling into fire rate 70% of the time for the first 7-8 levels, its a guaranteed loss.
The game is highly unbalanced, unforgiving without a reason, slow and boring. Also, what's the point of building a game without some basic menu and exit options? Bad experience, although i tried giving it some time for the achievements. Why and why? [2/10]
