Proportions is a really fun little multiplayer game that I liked because of how simple the main idea is. One player becomes a giant while everyone else plays as tiny characters trying to complete objectives and escape. I found the size difference surprisingly effective because even basic movement around the map can become stressful when there is a giant player actively searching for me. Playing as a Mini is probably my favorite side. I have to work together with the other Minis, complete tasks and avoid getting caught, while also figuring out how to deal with the giant when they get too close. I liked that I am not completely helpless either, since biting the giant can help free me and escaping from traps gives the team another chance to keep going. Playing as the Giant feels completely different. Instead of worrying about objectives, I am hunting the Minis and trying to catch them before they finish what they need to do. I enjoyed the change in perspective because the same map feels totally different depending on which role I am playing. Trapping a Mini can also create some funny moments, especially when everyone else is desperately trying to rescue them. The voice chat mechanic is a really nice touch too. Minis can communicate with each other to coordinate their movements, but the Giant can hear nearby conversations. I liked how this turns communication into another part of the strategy rather than simply being a convenient feature. Sometimes saying too much can give away exactly where I am hiding, which adds some extra tension to the chase. My biggest issue is the limited amount of content. The game currently feels more like a compact multiplayer concept than a fully developed long term experience. There are only a small number of maps and the same general objectives can eventually start to feel familiar. I think more environments, objectives and role specific abilities would give the game much more staying power. I also think the experience depends heavily on having a group of people to play with. The asymmetric design is at its best when everyone is communicating and reacting to each other, while quieter matches can lose some of the chaos that makes the game entertaining. Still, when a match is going well, the combination of teamwork, hiding and chasing can be genuinely exciting. Overall, Proportions is a charming and surprisingly tense asymmetric multiplayer game with a clever idea at its core. I really liked the contrast between playing as a tiny Mini trying to complete objectives and becoming the Giant hunting everyone down. It needs more maps and variety to reach its full potential, but the basic gameplay is fun enough that I can easily see myself coming back for another match. Rating: 6.8/10
