TLDR: Fun arcade style flight sim. Well done and put together, rare bugs (like a key squadron to progress a no show) but that was like 1 out of 1K + missions
The review: Project Wingman is one of those games that gots heart and character. You could tell the devs were into making a good game that works. It isn't as polished as ace combat 7 (this came out before), you could tell the DNA of it. It is more simplified than DCS, but it has that warbird feel good that IL-2 series had delivered.
It doesn't have all the weapons that Ace has but plenty. By comparison, ace combat 7 is a game I'm playing beside this one. The flight model is good, its not exacting and realistic like DCS, but it is close, meaning if you don't fly, you can hit the ground, if you lose SA (situation awareness) you're gonna have a bad day.
The story and world building is done well, and its enough to drive the plot and your missions. It's not super heavy, like Ace Combat (I got into ace in 5, 6, 7 ) where the world and story / plot have tons of back story from prior titles. Ace 7 story, cutscenes, and dialogue references stuff that happened in the universe, sometimes I feel like that cool guy at the party but since I'm fashionably late / not a part of the main cliques, I feel left out of the inside jokes everyone.
Project wingman doesn't have animated or live cutscenes of characters, but it doesn't need it, the story is told via the briefings and dialogue sections.
At first I was expecting a Ace Combat clone but no, its got its nuances and flight model. I like how they included iconic anime war stuff like *spoiler*, and *spoiler alert*, with the *spoiler alert cancel* (play the game or look through Proj Wingman wikia / fan site). The dialogue is well done, and they actually convey, not the dead pan monotone, I'd rather be doing something else than this voice acting gig that some games and even movies put out.
The game has replay-ability, and has different challenges. They have a DLC and also capture map type campaign as you complete missions, but the challenges go up over time and its rogue like meaning if you die have to start over.
