This is tech demo? To demonstrate what? How crappy AI generated stuff is? Then it's a success!
Absolutely insane how massive this map is. Felt like I was using Google Earth rather then a game. Excited for the final project to come to life and all 3 games combine.
As a tech demo it's unimpressive. Rudimentary assets and design. To describe it as simplistic, boring and looking like an engine from the early 2000's would be generous. I suppose the density of objects is greater than you'd find from an engine back then but that is mild and faint praise. This is combined with a rudimentary lighting system. I spawned in at night, so perhaps in the day there are some shadows cast, but for my instance (which is always the same, even if you reboot the game) its just flat lighting with no shadow casting. Honestly looks like an early 3D game from the 90's. Everything just glows and sorta floats where it is. No sense of depth or placement. If there is any sort of dynamic global illumination it doesn't do anything where I am. There is nothing of interest to look at, no unique or interesting terrain features spawned in my instance. Just a constantly repeating set of basic rocks, trees and shrubs with flat lighting. Draw distances are unimpressive. There is a feature where you can 'periscope' up a few hundred feet to get a birds eye view. This shows the terrain is not interesting (a few gentle hills, very boring) but also the draw distance is not very far. I was dropped in a forest which extended in a kilometer bubble around me. After that a token tree here or there, but whatever mild immersion this tech could have invoked by having large, realized biomes is lost. I like it when a dev tries something new and is willing to put out a work in progress demo to share. I came into this giving them a lot of good will, and willing to overlook a lot of rough spots if it showed something interesting that could be built upon. Unfortunately, there is no 'there, there' in this. The generated terrain is as generic as you could imagine, the lighting is, frankly, terrible, and the assets are, like the terrain, generic. There is no seed of innovation or possibility when looking at this. How this is any different than any other generic procedurally generated world is unknown to me. Is it the size and scope of the environment? No Man's Sky is huge, and its engine creates environments that are orders of magnitude more interesting, and I think NMS gets repetitive pretty quick, but at least you got hours of novelty there. Here my curiosity was completely exhausted within a minute. If that. I can't point to a single thing this demo is doing that isn't better done by any of it's contemporaries in the space. There is nothing to be excited about. I'm confused as to what the dev is trying to showcase here.

This game is awful. There is nothing to do except wander around a landscape and never progress.
People need to keep in mind that this is an early access tech demo. Expect significant performance issues, bugs, and crashes. There may not be any actual gameplay, but it is kinda cool seeing a world be generated with realistic biomes and foliage. Games need time to improve, someday this tech demo will become a good game (if not their other game Prologue: Go wayback!)
While the technology behind it might be impressive, it sure doesn't show it to the player. For all I know it might be some giant sphere with random noise displacement and some randomly placed rocks and trees. Also having to walk as the only form of moving on a planet-scale map is a very odd choice. The lack of sounds, textures, shading etc. made me quit it after a couple of minutes. Again, might be impressive technology, but doesn't belong on Steam.
I don't know why they would release this without even the slightest bit of evidence for why this is special. They reinvented terrain generation? Cool? Really pointless. They're just looking for free labor to test this nonsense.
Unreal Engine 5 Kinda sorta sucks to be honest, The settings are limited, the graphics suck and everything responds like crap, good on you for trying a new engine but this one sucks so find a new one, also if I am spawned in a random forest away from anything actually interesting then it is your own fault for not giving me something interesting to look at,
This is insanely sad, its like a 2000s quality daggerfall with no quests, no npcs, nothing
its terrible... ill bet a solo dev on youtube could make better in 1hr
