So the game just came out and as such this review is rather early, having only put in an hour and a half into the game presently. However an hour and a half is usually how long I put into most games of this style before I decide whether or not the frustration is worth it. With Pokie I can say it is enjoyable, though I do not think I could sit down and play it for more than an hour or two at a time. Some sections the slidiness of the movement made me have to step back. Though despite the frustration when I did make it past certain levels the sense of relief was worth it. Overall unless something changes further down the game that just makes me despise it, I would recommend it for anyone looking for a simple, yet challenging platformer with a degree of personality.
This game should not be 5 dollars, 5 cents maybe, i would understand. The game design is mediocre, repetitive, and dull. I have played better games made for Game Jams that were made in literally a couple hours for 0 dollars. I hope the publisher will not make any games in the future. NOT RECOMMENDED! #freejoey
In my hour and twenty minutes with the game I beat the final boss and got a couple of the secrets scattered throughout. I will say I enjoyed it overall despite some minor frustrations, usually with difficulty. The level design is pretty good, nothing amazing, but there were definitely moments of intentionality which you don't often see with these kind of flash-game like platformers. I really appreciated the unique death animations for each enemy type. I thought that was a neat touch. I also liked the simple but catchy music. There are some problems with hit detection, especially on the dark blue bouncing enemies, when you jump on them. Also I found the final boss a little frustrating but once I found a strategy to keep him from shooting rockets, he was beatable. I would have also liked to see more variety in the backgrounds. Overall fun game to spend an hour with and it seems like there is another set of levels coming which I'll look forward to.
i think i was gone but no i actually came.
