beautiful game
Poco.
This game was so cute and for free it's worth a play through or two!
Could not get past the fishing minigame with only a trackpad for control. Not fun failing after 20+ attempts, and no way to skip. Glad I did not have to pay for this. Enjoyed the art and humour, but being forced to quit left a bitter taste.
POCO: A short, sweet and incredibly charming journey.
I don't usually write reviews for games, as what I have to say has usually been already better expressed by others and I don't feel the need to voice my thoughts. Poco, despite being an incredibly short experience, has pushed me to write something for it. Poco is a small journey and not a particularly difficult game. Though I highly advise you to go in blind and experience it for yourself (the game is free, afterall). I may spoil some stuff to actually talk about why it connected with me and why I find it so attractive. I had been sitting on it for a while and had been meaning to play it, but once I have, I finished it all in one sitting without getting bored just because of how it engages you, and I say this as someone who never really got into point-and-click games. Did I mention how it's also incredibly gorgeous? It's got a really unique artstyle and adorable, cartoony characters with beautiful, hand-drawn backgrounds. The clown mini-game mechanics are also really solid and fun to get used to. The writing is hilarious, even if the game is a little short. Poco is a game about the world's smallest clown of the same name getting rejected from the circus, and he means to find a way back up to redeem himself. In the process of trying to return, he meets the many dwellers of the below world and his interactions with them is what makes the game. The game doesn't take a genius to play; most of its items are rather straight-forward to find and usually you know what to do just by walking around and exploring all the branches of the map, and the main objective of the game is to collect rocket pieces, which are scattered across the map and are obtained through helping the various critters you meet by playing various mini-games and finding multiple items from different locations. The relationships you establish with these guys is what makes the game so endearing. You fall to the below world at a time when all of them are at their lowest (Except Gultch. He's just a hungry fella.) and try to help them. You get to prove yourself and your clown capabilities through various interactions in the world itself, which brings you to grow closer to this place which embraces you. At the end of the game, you realize that you do not necessarily need to work towards appeasing some impossible standards, rather recognize your own talents and worth while being able to surround yourself with people who truly appreciate you and your presence. This game shows so much in so little time, I just couldn't help but want more (in a good way, not in an unsatisfied way.) Overall, I recommend this game to just about anybody of any age. It's easy to understand, play, and get into.
