POCKET MYSTERY EP DX

"POCKET MYSTERY EP DX" is A very mediocre and failed attempt to make a murder mystery for the Nintendo GameBoy... and this is fine and I hope the GameBoy launch went really well, despite this launching in 2024. For some inexplicable reason it was also launched on gaming PCs. Gaming PCs which are not limited to the stupidly low resolution, low fidelity of the GameBoy handheld console appliance. As a result, this immediately fails all technical requirements that any PC game must exceed in order to be recommendable to PC gamers. The plot follows a detective reliving the final moments of his colleagues so you can piece together why they got murdered. Gameplay is a lot of clicking through badly written narrative, moving around, and a little bit of Sokoban puzzle stuff. In fact a lot of work went into this failure, but working hard on something that's immediately flawed because of the obsolete 1:1 low resolution display (no 4K, 16:9 here and that's unacceptable) is just a huge waste of time. Might as well spend 5 years writing a book then burn the only copy. There's an overwhelming amount of mediocre Visual Novel/E-book style cutscenes in this game. The developers failed one of the most basic, fundamental requirements of game design.. "Show, don't tell." So you'll spend a huge amount of time not playing the game, but clicking through endless lines of poorly written VN text cutscenes because the developers couldn't work out how to relate their narrative through the game mechanics, and decided instead it would be better to compete with reading a book for your time. We're here to play games, not read through hours of garbage intersituals. Your gaming rig is not a Kindle. This features really godawful pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks much worse than most other games because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded [i]despite[/i] the bad graphics, not because of them. Let's look at the price and what kind of value this actually offers gamers. This is "free" enough (not every "free" game in the "free" section is truly free, there's usually some hidden price tag), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. A peak of [b]3 concurrent players[/b] (according to SteamDB) for a "free" game is a disastrous public reception. Out of 130 million potential players here on Steam, almost nobody was interested. Even though this is "free". That level of rejection speaks a lot for the quality of the game. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? This isn't good enough for me to suggest PC gamers spend their time and hard drive space on. There's thousands of better alternatives on Steam more worthy of your time.
