PockeDate! - Pocket Dating Simulator

Pockedate! is a genre-bending 'arcade' game where the MC goes on short dates with Akari, the sole love-interest in the game. It runs as a game-within-a-game and your choices decide the endings though you do have to follow an order to getting the endings. The art is bright and colourful, and even in the darker parts of the game, the backgrounds and style remain consistent and defined enough to identify. It has minor elements of messing with the game layout/windows like other PC sims I've played. I liked the story but I did feel like it got repetitive at times (even for just 1 hour worth of playtime!) - I got really sick of running the dates. I liked the story and I liked the gameplay minus [spoiler]the bullet hell section at the end of the game.[/spoiler] I strongly considered DNFing the game as it was so difficult and not something I enjoy. It's free though, and a good game. Worth a play.

Despite being a short game it never failed to entertain. What I really liked about it is how variable the choices and outcomes were and how fresh it kept the experience. The way the game would distort and glitch even out onto the Steam Library page or begin looping reminded me of the creepypastas that I would listen to so much of as a child back in 2014. The music is very catchy and will alter either positively or negatively depending on the love bar on the side (which I sometimes caught Akari looking at when it began to get rather low). It was very refreshing to see how she would also read your games in your library and give comments on them. A feature in games which I haven't seen in a title in a long time. It was very easy to see what this game took inspiration from, and I am satisfied that I got the chance to experience its inspirations and twists on the Visual Novel genre. They're games too! (She'll get mad if you say otherwise....)

Ok, HOW is this game FREE!?? It's literally a work of art, man. PockeDate CRUSHES most other games in overall awesomeness, and its ingenuity is not to be ignored. There are VERY few games that I've come across in my hordes of gaming years that could rival this game in its loving craftsmanship. It's absolutely in the same boat as Doki Doki Literature Club and Steins;Gate to me, even with it being significantly shorter. I did everything I could find and got all the achievements in just a bit over 3 hours of playtime. The play length felt perfect for what's on offer. PockeDate is 100% worth your time, I promise.
