I knew going into this that this game would be good, but I had no idea that it would end up being one of my favorite games of all time.
From beginning to end I was just in love with this entire game. I had only played Persona 5 before playing this, but after finishing this I’m itching for more.
Pros:
Characters: The characters are just amazing. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so connected to a cast of characters like this before. Yu is a great protagonist but like with Persona 5 it’s the side characters that really take the cake. Yosuke is goofy and a complete klutz, but he’s also really relatable. Chie is brave and a bit of a hothead. Yukiko is smart and a top student, but also struggles with her family’s expectations. Kanji is rebellious but hides a soft and sensitive heart. Rise is an energetic former pop idol who also deals with her true self and the pop idol persona (get it because the game is called persona) Naoto is an extremely intelligent young detective who also has to deal with the yearning to belong. I could go over all of the other amazing characters, but these are the ones that really stood out to me. I love Persona 4 for exactly this reason. Characters with deep struggles that you the player help resolve over the course of the game.
The Mystery: This small town murder mystery is something that’s just right up my alley. I love Memories of Murder so when I found out that this would be similar to that I was immediately hooked. The mystery also never felt boring or anything like that.
OST: HOLY ♥♥♥♥! This soundtrack is genuinely amazing! Atlus cooked so hard with this! Might be my favorite ost of all time! Such a banger. I’ve been actively listening to this everyday for the last month. God this is so good.
Combat: Even though it is very basic it still feels very fun and never gets dull. It’s always fun and gets even more fun once you level up some of your companions.
Cons:
Boss Battles: Most of them honestly just suck. Boring and just very bland. The designs are all cool, but this is the worst thing about this game in my opinion.
Dungeons: I’m kind of mixed on the dungeons. Some of them are good like the Heaven one but others are just boring and really repetitive. Doesn’t help that some are also really, REALLY annoying.
Overall: I really loved this game. It’s been on my mind since I started it in June and I don’t think it’s going away anytime soon. I don’t give 5/5s often but this definitely is a perfect game.
