Man Classic Call of Duty really doesn't hold up.
Warning: Asset Flip! "Pain of War" is one of literally thousands of creatively bankrupt asset flips/kitbashes infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere.
This is a really, really bad kitbash of a whole bunch of stock assets mangled together with the FPS Creator construction kit, designed to allow people who don't know how to make video games to hack together a working FPS in just minutes. Which is exactly what happened here. For profit. This is not okay. "Pain of War" is a basic asset flip, kitbashed out of a bunch of someone else's game assets all thrown in a blender. This is creatively bankrupt stuff, effectively plagiarism, and it's bad for everyone. While there's no up front price for this asset flip, the other problem with asset flips is that when developers aren't capable of doing their job and creating high quality assets, it's also true they can't do any of the rest of the job of a game developer either. That's definitely true for "Pain of War", and this kind of asset flipping never results in games that have quality or value for PC gamers. This game is fairly dated at 8 years old... and even back then it looked old and busted compared to contemporary, professionally made 3D games of the same period. It looked bad then, it looks worse now. Let's talk about price and the value this represents for us gamers. You're expected to pay up $3 USD to unlock content through DLC purchases. The game should not be considered completely unlocked until you empty your wallet for the developer. This is misleading and predatory pricing on a product falsely marketed as "free". Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 130 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB shows this peaked at only 12 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Given that this free game won't increase your game collector count, is it worth your time to add it to your library? Nope. There's no up front cost here, but I still feel like I got ripped off, and I didn't even spend any money. That's how bad this is. There are over 140,000 games on Steam, not every one of them is a hidden gem. I'm here to help gamers find the ones that actually matter in that sea of Steam Direct self-published mess. If you don't agree with my findings in this review, you should definitely download it and play it to see for yourself. I'm happy to have helped you make an informed choice, regardless of the outcome.

This is a very simple and quick game, but I love the effort in the multiple paths possibles and the achievements.
