Before I played Omniblast, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
Omniblast is a free to play (but monetised) 2D retro pixel vertical scrolling endless runner. It does have the appearance of an Asteroids/SpaceWar! ripoff but it's considerably more dumbed down than that. Gameplay consists of basic dodging left and right, and "boss fights" which just involve dodging stuff for a while then ramming the boss with the "shift" key. There's a series of upgrade systems and so on, which makes it seem like someone took SpaceWar!, then removed most of the gameplay, then went back and started bolting alternative, less enjoyable gameplay onto the game they stripped down. Essentially, this pig has 6-10 layers of lipstick on it. If it's not broken, break it, then weld pointless stuff onto it? The game was made with the godawful GameMaker Studio video game construction kit from Yoyogames. This is a very poor quality game construction kit, and unsurprisingly results in games of equally poor quality. Here, resolution and controls are locked, which alone disqualifies this from any recommendation. Minimalist/retro pixel "art" being used as a substitute for contemporary graphics (the game was launched in 2021) also counts against the game. The developer made the base game for free, but bizarrely is charging for currency in the game, when there's dozens of better, completely free endless runners (if you really wanted to play one) and SpaceWar ripoffs which are completely free (StarCon 2 comes to mind). Despite the almost-free price of the game, there's better free games of far higher quality. I can't recommend this.
Developer Response!
The developer has weighed in to inform everyone they didn't read the Developer Usage Rules for Steam "partners", or they deliberately ignored the part where Valve says:
Though it may be tempting, not every review needs to be responded to. A developer response will frequently draw more attention than the original statement, potentially turning a small issue into a much larger community discussion. It's also not a good idea to use this feature to refute customer opinions. Your direct attention can be seen as validation or a defensive attempt to silence your customers.
The developer has weighed in to point out you can grind for in-game currency, which really doesn't change the fact that they're still charging for it. So I'm not sure what they thought they were achieving with that. It doesn't change any of the important information for gamers in my review, and I still don't recommend downloading this.

like an expansion of a game engine tutorial (not a bad thing though.
⭐ Overview & First Impressions Omniblast is a fast-paced space shooter that plunges you instantly into the chaos of intergalactic combat. You pilot a nimble spaceship, dodging asteroids, weaving through celestial hazards, and engaging in boss fights across different galactic arenas. The experience is reminiscent of classic shoot-’em-ups but wrapped in a modern indie package that emphasizes speed, reflexes, and score mastery. The game is a free title on Steam, making it accessible to practically anyone with a Windows machine. Despite its indie roots and budget nature, Omniblast offers a surprising amount of content — from unlockable ships to leaderboards and Steam achievements — which gives players incentive to keep playing even after the initial thrill wears off. 🚀 Gameplay & Mechanics: Fast, Fun, But Simple At its core, Omniblast is about moment-to-moment action. The controls are straightforward: navigate your vessel, avoid incoming threats, and unload firepower on anything that moves. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty curve — while not punishing — demands quick reflexes. This makes the game feel instantly gratifying, especially for fans of arcade shooters. What works well: Simple controls that are easy to pick up but hard to master. Variety of ships to unlock, each with slightly different playstyles or visuals. Leaderboards and achievements add replay value for competitive players. However, the simplicity is a double-edged sword. Without more structured progression or narrative context, the action can feel repetitive after long sessions. The lack of deep upgrades, branching paths, or meaningful customization keeps Omniblast firmly in the realm of pick-up-and-play titles — great for quick bursts, but not necessarily something you’ll return to for dozens of hours. 📊 Visuals & Audio As an indie release, Omniblast doesn’t boast AAA spectacle — but that’s part of its charm. The visuals lean into classic arcade stylings, with vibrant colors and clear visual feedback that helps during hectic encounters. There’s enough polish to make each level distinct and easy to read, which is critical when dodging waves of enemies and obstacles. Audio is functional and fitting: energetic sound effects and a driving soundtrack help set the pace without becoming overwhelming. Nothing here is revolutionary, but the audiovisual package does a solid job of reinforcing the arcade feel. 🌌 Replayability & Community Reaction From the limited Steam review pool, Omniblast skews generally positive. According to aggregated data, around 75% of users rate it favorably, with players praising its addictive action and free-to-play accessibility. That said, it’s not without criticism: Some players note a lack of depth — once you’ve conquered the core mechanics, there’s not much left beyond chasing a higher score. With few reviews overall (only a handful of user impressions on Steam), it’s clear this game hasn’t broken into mainstream indie consciousness yet. Still, the presence of co-op and multiplayer tags suggests the potential for shared sessions with friends, which adds a social layer to what could otherwise be a purely solo endeavor. 🧠 Final Verdict Strengths: Easy to jump into and immediately enjoy Fast pacing perfect for arcade shooter fans Free to play with meaningful unlocks and achievements Weaknesses: Limited depth and progression systems Niche appeal — better for short bursts than long campaigns Small community, which means fewer competitive benchmarks Overall: Omniblast is a solid indie space shooter that captures the spirit of classic arcade blasters while keeping its mechanics accessible and fun. It doesn’t revolutionize the genre, but it does deliver consistent thrills and a satisfying challenge — especially impressive considering its free price point.
