RPG Maker strikes again! Nox Dei is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. This complete garbage RPG Maker asset flip is painfully generic, features nothing but stolen/flipped RPG Maker stock assets and of course the usual high school anime club dropout fan-fiction writing... it's appalling. Of course it was a dismal failure. As with all RPG Maker games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options, making this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer. The point can be made that the intention of RPG Maker is to make demos and small games to pass around friends, and shouldn't be used for "professional" game development. Like most RPG Maker shovelware and asset flips, the game features extremely low quality copy + pasted 2D retro pixel art, looks awful, and has even worse gameplay. RPG Maker is an absolutely terrible construction kit, and never results in games of any reasonable quality or value to gamers. There's no English translation for the this, but that's okay. The language of bad products is universal. This is "free" enough, at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 6 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. While this didn't cost me any money up front, I still feel ripped off.

I am learning Spanish so I decided to try this game out to further improve my language skills. Pros: It was a cute and fun little game! It had an interesting storyline that kept me engaged. I was really impressed with the music as well. What was especially unique with this game is the characters, as you don't usually see older adults as the main protagonists in RPG games. Cons: If you are experienced in playing RPG games, you will find this game rather short. It caps your maximum level at 15 and I was able to finish it in under 15 hours. Unfortunately, there is no controller support for this game so I had to use the keyboard rather than my USB Logitech controller. There is no other language support available for this game, so you have to really know Spanish in order to fully enjoy this game. (I understood this going in, of course.) There were a few minigame-like spots in the game I found rather frustrating and died over 100 times at each one. They aren't impossible, but they are a challenge and you may get stuck for a bit. But if you keep at it, you will eventually pull through! Conclusion: If you know or are learning Spanish and you are looking for a quick RPG game to dive into, Nox Dei is perfect! Despite some of its flaws, it is worth a play through!
